  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So what is the census here?
What type of gas and how many miles do you get from a tank?

Right now in my BMW I fill it with super and I get no more than 300 if I'm lucky..

I drive a 3.8 but it can use Regular or Premium and I get about 400 miles per tank. For a 4.6 I believe you can only use Premium and not Regular (correct me if I'm wrong.)

I was told that the 4.6 can use either Regular or Premium. The computer adjusts the engine for the different octane rating. Even in the specs they list max HP for Premium and then for Regular.

I just bought my 2011 4.6 last week and have been using Regular with no ill effects. I may try premium one of these days to see if there is an increase in mileage and if it's enough to justify the additional 25 cents/gallon.

Have'12 4.6 - I have 406 miles on the 'trip' odo, right now and I am on the 1/8th tank remaining. I will be getting gas tomorrow on the way to work!

Always get 400+ miles and average 24mpg...running 80% highway. Not even sure what the tank holds? For me a 'fill' is usually about 15-17gals....always Premium... for me the price difference is only $.10gal so it really doesn't matter as an economic decsions

I get a little over 400 from my 5.0 driving like an idiot. I take it down to where I have 50 miles to empty before filling up. I'm able to get 550 out my sonata on mostly highway driving.

Last month got 433 miles going south to Florida. Had a little a less than an 1/8 of a tank left no low gas alarm yet but started to get nervous and stopped to gas up.

I have the 4.6, and I usually get about 375 in mixed highway/city driving. I've gotten as high as 480 (!) and as low 350. It all depends on how far you feel like pushing it. The low fuel range indicator comes on at about 45-50 miles, but even when it's at 0, there's still some (as yet actually determined by me) range left, at least 30 miles or so.

You definitely do not need to use premium in the 4.6. We still get 22.6 mpg on regular gas. Goes up about 2 mpg more on premium when on long trip. Will see 26 mpg.
