  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone know which parts of the interior are leather?

I realize the seats (part we actually sit on) are leather, also leather across the front part of the dash above the glove box, also part of the steering wheel, other than that does any one know?

(headrests, arm rest/console, top of dash, and so on)

2010 4.6L w/Tech package.

Everything that isnt carpet, silver plastic, or fake wood is leather. ALL of the dashboard. Armrests. Doors. Seats. Center console sides. Everything.

Not the A,B,C pillars or headliner though.

Dang! That's amazing........ so the entire seat is leather, not just seating surfaces? etc........ that's totally shocking (in a good way) :)

Seating surfaces, side bolsters, back, headrest, sides of the seat, the very front. Yea, everything that isn't hard plastic.

Rule of thumb for Genesis surfaces, if you can press on it and it isn't rock hard (or carpet) its leather.

That's way cool. So, if it looks like leather and feels like leather, it probably came from a cow!! ;);)

Or possibly a Nauga

Or possibly a Nauga

Honda is a major Nauga breeder for the back sides and headrests of their seats in leather-trimmed cars.

If I recall, the early Hyundai Genesis Sedan specs said that it had "leather trimmed" seats, so I am not sure that 100% of the seat is leather. For the 2013 Genies, the spec sheet on the Hyundai website says "leather seating surfaces." I am not sure what the means, but it "may" mean that the seat backs are not leather since they are not seating surfaces. Marketing people can be quite devious.

MB and BMW often use artificial leather on the entire seating surface as standard equipment on many models, and leather is an optional upgrade. On BMW forums, I have seen many people claim that they prefer the artificial leather.

I hope you are joking.
Yes. I am playing off of dg_moore's post and highlighting that some automakers use vinyl on the back sides of seats and leather on the fronts to save money. Honda is one, and you can't tell.

Naugahyde (sometimes abbreviated to Nauga) is an American brand of artificial leather (or "pleather" from plastic leather).

RonJ ......
For you Nauga deniers - here's an online history (and if it's on the Internet it's bound to be true, right?):

Naugas do give up their hydes. But they do it willingly and they shed their skins quite often. They live to give again and again. In fact, Naugas are so willing to please that they often shed their hyde several times a year. No self-respecting hunter would ever try to hurt a Nauga.

However, to protect the little Naugas from the curious, they now are living on a secret ranch somewhere near Stoughton, Wisconsin.

For what it's worth, the window sticker for my 2013 Genesis Premium AT 4DR simply states: *Premium Leather Seats. Kind of implies 100% leather, not just seating surface or trim.

My 2009 with Tech has the "Ultra Premium Leather." Must be the same stuff as Bentley:rolleyes:

Words like "Premium" and "Ultra", or "Limited" are just marketing terms, and don't really indicate anything at all, but it sounds fancy to a consumer.

The Base trim and Premium Packages have regular leather, and the Tech Package has Premium leather (supposedly a little thicker). However, implications aside, I am not sure the question is completely settled as to whether the entire seat (including back) is leather or artificial leather.

I personally don't really care, since a lot BMW and MB owners actually prefer synthetic leather on the entire seating surface, and since apparently no one call tell the difference anyway. One of the big advantages of leather is supposedly that it "breathes" but the Genesis seats are perforated.

This reminds me of the discussion about the wood-grained trim and steering wheel (2009-2012 Tech Package V8), neither of which are real wood, but are actually plastic with a "wood-grain" finish on the Genesis.

I recently saw the TV show "How It's Made," one of which was about the Bentley. They showed how each piece of the leather is hand cut. They will custom dye to any color you want, sort of like a paint store.
