  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So im still a newbie here but im wondering how to play movies while in park in the gen. Can you do it via usb stick or does it have to be a true dvd disc?

I also burned a data mp3 cd and the genesis it didn't play it. It just gave me an error. Whats the deal?

You can't. The only way to play videos in DVD-Video format. You can't simply toss files onto a DVD.

As for the CD, it's not looking for data as the USB selection would. Just as with the DVD and movies, it's looking for convention CD audio formatting. The only way to do what you want for mp3 files is to store them on a USB drive or the internal HD.

Yes you can play movie files off the USB stick, I do it all the time. You just have to convert the movie off the DVD to the proper type mp4 file. I use Handbrake

But remember: you won't be able to watch any video once you put your car in gear. :p

Info about this movie:

'32 Hours 7 Minutes' is a documentary film on the original cross-country races known as the 'Cannonball', and the fastest time from NY to CA in a car, set in 1983. Over 2 decade later, when suspicions arise about the legitimacy that record, Director Cory Welles climbs into the backseat of Alex Roy's infamous BMW M5 and races across the country to try and break 32:07, to prove it's real. Here's the first few minutes of the film.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Would the Video In Motion device that breaks the "in park" limits also allow the MP4 on a stick to play? I bet so.

And too bad the iPod integration will not play MP4 hand broke movies that are stored in it through iTunes.

I don't really get the point of playing movies. If you can only do it in park, and you need the engine running in order to not kill the battery - it seems an inconvenient and expensive movie :(

I agree with you, it's pointless.

The movie actually was .mp4 file "on stick". I guess any video will be blocked.

Unless or until someone can cheat the file into a non video format type then hopefully it will play when in motion, just saying.

To play the video you need to switch to it in settings.
I've tried other formats than .mp4 and it says that file is corrupted or something, lol

So all and all whats the easiet way to play a movie via usb?

You'll need to rip the DVD and convert it to .mp4 format, using handbrake software ......or just download a movie already converted from torrent site , there is plenty of them out there ;)

Confirmed that it will not play .mp4s off a USB drive.

This may be different for the +'13 media center UI, but earlier models won't even display the files in the menu.

That's what I though at first.
In settings, there is an option, something like "switch to video" then you'll see those files...
I can't check right now, I'm away from my car.

Looks more like earlier model years.
Mine plays just fine on usb.
I actually copied the mp4's over the jukebox and play them from there too.
