  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My starter has finally failed on my 2015 V8 Ultimate - How do I release the Parking Brake to get it ready for towing?

I happened to be sitting in my car when I read this – it's a 2015 3.8 Sedan – so I switched the ignition to ON (by pressing the button twice with my foot off the brake pedal), put the transmission in D, put my foot on the brake pedal and pressed and held the parking brake button and that turned off the parking brake. Then I shifted to neutral, which you would presumably do for towing, and shut off the ignition and the P-brake appeared to stay off. So you could give that a try. Let us know if it works!

The parking brake being electronic, and electronic things having a tendency to act unpredictably sometimes, I'd probably recommend using a flatbed just so no transmission damage occurs should a bird flying overhead or a temporary dip in the NASDAQ cause the P-brake to re-engage mid-tow...

Pressing the parking brake button in with the key on will release. There is no need to shift into driver or any gear to do this. Of course, you will need to shift to neutral eventually anyway.

Thanks - I did stumble upon it eventually!
