  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know how to remove the sliding ash tray cover? The door squeaks when it's in the closed (covering the ash tray) position and believe it or not I don't want to just drive around with it open. The squeak is coming from the part up under the dash. I've tried thin foam rubber pads everywhere I can reach but the squeak still continues so I think I need to dig deeper.

The sliding door is #17 in this link and at $197 I don't want to just snap it off.

Are you wanting to remove the whole thing or just the sliding door part? I don't recommend removing the sliding door part for the simple reasoning of the springs and mechanics. It's pretty cool how it works. If you're wanting to take the assembly itself out, I don't remember it off hand. I've removed mine before.

Removing the entire assembly could work. The squeak is coming from the forward part so any way that will give me access to that area should do.

Shouldn't this be covered under the warranty?

Yes, it should be covered under warranty but it's an hour's drive each way to the dealership. Without anything really wrong with the car I'm not going to make the drive for a minor squeak. If I do have a more serious problem worthy of the drive I certainly will tack it on the list.

I would think so unless a child pushed something into the area that is causing the squeak.

I've been driving my truck being winter's hit. But I'll see what I can do about looking at it again and trying to remember how that thing comes apart.

Has anybody figured out what to use the ashtray compartment for?

I pryed the metal snuffer off of the insert and now it is a nice change tray. Keeping the removable insert makes it easier to clean out and it is less noisy.

Me too. I think it was the first 'modification' I made.

I wish you hadn't called my attention to the sliding cover. I just noticed that it is "not quite" the same wood color as the rest of the console. !!!!!
