How to turn off the smart in smart cruise control.

I sometimes use the smart cruise but would like the option for regular cruise. My old car had both.

From the owners manual page 7-82: "If your vehicle is equipped with Manual Speed Limit Assist, press and hold the Driving Assist button to turn off Smart Cruise Control. However Manual Speed Limit Assist will turn on."

The "Driving Assist" button is the one on the steering wheel you normally press to enable/disable the Smart cruise function.

Aren't "speed limit assist" and "normal" cruise control two completely different thing?
Normal cruise control - keeps the car at the speed you set (does not slow down to avoid hitting another car). You do not press the gas pedal
speed limit assist - prevents you from driving faster than the set speed. (You have to hold the gas pedal down to maintain speed.)

It doesn't seem that normal cruise control is possible in the newest Genesis.

I just checked on my GV70, holding down the button brings up the "Limit" setting on the dashboard instead of smart cruise. I guess they changed the behavior from the G70 which did have non-smart cruise control mode.

There HAS to be a way to fix the 2014 Genesis to where you can turn off the "radar" on the cruise control. It's just inexcusable to not have that option on such a nice car!

Why? A few people have asked about it and in the ten years I've has SCC on three cars never wanted to change to standard. What am I missing? Aside from the fact I'd have to make manual adjustments.

I have never understood it either BUT I was a BMW owner prior to trading in my BMW for the Genesis GV60P and on the BMW forums there were always folks who hated ACC and wanted "normal" cruise control.

It is one of those "features" that if important, should be factored into a car buying/leasing experience. I would compare it to auto hold. The first time I had a car with it, I disliked it but I finally forced myself to use it for a week and have used it ever since. I would hate to have a car without it. But there are many who strongly dislike it.

The nice thing is that most cars, including the GV60, have a button or other control to turn auto hold on or off and, at least for the GV60, it is sticky. It would be nice to have a button for turning the ACC on or off but there are very few buyers who want that and it would introduce some cost and complexity (BMW M cars have been criticized in reviews for having too many options).

Personally, I would not buy a car without ACC and I would not want to turn it into classic cruise control. But...we are all different. I would no longer buy a car without a HUD but some folks hate HUDs.
 
I regularly drive on a freeway through the mountains that has long, sweeping curves. The ACC keeps "seeing" then "losing" the vehicle in front which results in uncomfortable speed-up-slow-down progress. Switching to regular cruise control would be a nice option.

What is you set the speed to closer match the car ahead? Is it a situation where you have to slow considerably on the curves?

No, it's not as if the brakes keep slamming on; it's just a constant on-the-throttle off-the-throttle. There are ways I can minimize the problem, but it's still an annoyance. It would have been so simple to have had the ability to switch to old-fashioned dumb cruise control that I wonder why Hyundai didn't do so.

I think your requirements while reasonable for you, are somewhat unique. It is sort of like treatments for rare diseases. Most drug companies don't search for remedies for diseases that are rare so the potential users are also rare. The Feds, here in the US, dealt with that problem by creating a program for orphan drugs. You are in somewhat the automobile equivalent of that.

I fully understand your situation but, unfortunately, you are 🪛

I've found that the adaptive cruise sensors to be very sensitive to snow and ice, and have frequently encountered situations where the road conditions are fine to be utilizing cruise control, but the sensors keep becoming obstructed by snow or ice preventing the cruise control from being engaged.

I've been driving for 40 years, I have extensive training in advanced driving, and am a former instructor for advanced driving - including ice racing. I's like to be ble to decide when and where I engage cruise control and not be dictated to by my car. Being able to disengage the "adaptive" or "smart" element of the cruise provides that ability.

I guess you new drivers want to do things different than us with 64 years experience.

Same here in WI. Love to hear if there’s a way to turn off the adaptive cc. Not uncommon to have wet Interstate at freezing temperatures with the salt we use and have those big wet snow flakes cover up the sensors. The dash lights up and chimes with warnings and I have to turn the cruise off just to quiet it down. Then when I stop I could wipe off the sensors but what’s the use, they’ll goober up in no time. I’ll keep looking in the manual and ask my dealer in a couple weeks when I’m there.
 
Found it in the manual. With smart cruise control on but not set, press and hold the distance between button for 3-5 seconds. Hear beep and see the change on the smart cruise control dashboard display to “manual”

I'll have to try that in my 25 G70. Funny thing is that at first I hated the smart cruise, but I've become accustomed to it and now I actually like it.
