  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

“It underscores our beliefs that V6 engines will go the way of the dinosaur,” said John Krafcik, CEO of Hyundai's American operations.

Not sure if its just in the context of the new Sonata and discussing its 4-cyl engine and variants, but an odd thing to say when you've got a V6 and V8 in your larger cars like the Genesis and Equus. I doubt either will ever get anything with less than six cylinders in it.

i wonder if we'll ever see a large 4-cyl turbo in a Genesis sedan?

The quote was made during the intro of the 2011 Sonata. There's a video out from it's product introduction yesterday (12/2/09). The quote had as the rest of the story the fact that the 6 cyl. engine in the Sonata-sized cars would go that way. He also said the Genesis, Equus (and similar cars) would keep 6 and 8 cyl. engines. There was also an allusion (by someone else, I think) to a possible change to the Coupe motor somehow related to the GDI concept employed in the Sonata motor. They declined to say more, so I guess we get to watch....

Yes, the Sonata will get a Direct Injection (DI) version of the 2.0T found currently in the Genesis Coupe. It will make "more than 245hp" while delivering 23 city/35 hwy when mated to Hyundai's 6-speed automatic. I personally applaud Hyundai's commitment to being the most fuel-efficient automaker in the U.S. (provided they leave V6/V8 engines for the Veracruz, Azera, Genesis and Equus).

Somewhat related side note: the 2010 Tucson, which is arriving at dealers any day, gets the the non-DI version of the Theta II, but will get the DI Theta II as Hyundai is able to expand capacity to produce enough engines for both vehicles. The Sonata is clearly the more important vehicle in Hyundai's U.S. lineup so I guess that's why it gets it first. The Tucson may also get the DI 2.0T as well. Probably on the 2012 model.
