Some may remember that I tried to kick up some dust abut getting Genesis golf shirts, mugs, jackets, etc. done. I was willing to fund it, make it happen, etc.
The guys that seemed to me to know the most about the logos and the international rights would be KAI since they import so much of it. So, I contacted them to get their thoughts. I can tell you that Hyundai does police their trademarks (as they should). I police the registered trademarks I own. It's an investment and the image of a company. I hear that their copyright 'police' have fined more than one illegal use of their logo in Korea. Depending on how nasty a copyright owner wants to be (in the US anyway) they can sue/fine everyone in the food chain, down to the last buyer of the product that contains the illegal use of the trademark. Ouch!
I understand that there MAY be some badged products coming out of Korea that are not authrorized by Hyundai. There also may be some created here in the US, not getting Hyundai authorization.
I haven't gotten confirmation here, but I'm 99% sure that if you get a product that has the Hyundai hologram on it, it's genuine.
From what I can gather, so far, Hyundai has not given logo use authorization yet to any third parties. WHEN they do, I'd love to be in the line to get legal license rights to do the shirts, jackets, etc. Hey... NFL does this and makes money at it! On the other hand, IF Hyundai would offer these products, I'd be in line to buy them!
If any of you know any more facts or anthing different than I have put in here, please share them and feel free to correct me. I can't use Snopes.com for what I've heard
But the LAST thing I want is to have anything on my car that is not above board.
