In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I received a emission test survey in the mail. The company requested that I take my car out to Chino California , about 40 miles away to test the emission system. Do you guys have any idea what they are trying to find out about it? Are the cars in CA any different that the ones sold in other parts of the country?

The California 4.6 is the same as the other US 4.6's.

Could be that our V8's are getting such good gas milage, Hyundai wants to find out why. LOL I see that I'm not the only 4.6 owner that gets fantastic milage.

Is there an ongoing discussion regarding gas mileage for the Tau?

Not that I know of. This is really the first time I have driven any real distance 380miles each way from LA to SF. I wasn't driving for economy what so ever and I think (unscientific) I could have squeezed nearly 600 miles out of a tank. That's pushing 30 miles a gallon driving 85-90mph with A/C blasting in triple digit heat. I couldn't believe it.

I'm still scratching my head how a heavier car, with a larger engine with more cylinders, can get better mileage than the same car with a V6!

I couldn't tell you either. I didn't do anything like mess with the tire pressure, or drive 65mph the whole way. The conditions 100+ degrees and the way I was driving and blasting A/C, I assumed I would have to make a stop on the way cause I don't like to go all the way to down close to E. wasn't even close I still had a 1/3 of a tank left and had gone 380 miles. The only thing I "did" to the car was change the oil at 1000 miles to 5w-30 synthetic, but I doubt that's the reason.

In May, when I drove to El Paso, Phoenix and then stayed in Roswell, I averaged 27.5 mpg. In June, when I drove to Rochester (Penfield), then to Lake George, I averaged 28.0 mpg. All with E10 Fuel. I have now found a local outlet for straight Gasoline. Costs me ten cents more than E10, so I've started to use that. Don't know if my every day local driving mpg will improve, but with E10, just around town, I've been getting between 17 and 21, averaging 18 to 19 mpg.

Don't know about the V6, but it should average a couple mpg better than that.

Chino is where one of the Hyundai-Kia Auto Technical Centers is located, one of several R&D/test/technical facilities that Hyundai and Kia have in Southern California. So I suspect that they asked you because of your proximity to the Chino facility and probably nothing to do with California emissions specifically.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I got the same invitation. Interesting that it says "...we are conducting a program to monitor performance ratios of 2008 Hyundai vehicles." Guess my Genesis is older than I thought. The invitation includes a form to fill out and return which has the VIN code too; that indicates the model year of course! In fact, the form lists "2009" for the car. Whatever...

Chino is not a quick drive for me and, without additional info on just what they're researching/tracking, I think I'll pass.

So they didn't offer to pay you for the miles?

Hey, Chino is not the boonies anymore--it's the suburbs now. But that probably doesn't even cover gas for you...

I got a call from Hyundai this morning. They asked me to come down to their testing center in Chino CA. Since I have fridays off in the summer, why not. Here is the email they just sent me to confirm:

Hi Mr. ,

Per our telephone conversation on 07/22, I have attached a map to our facility.

When you arrive at our facility, there will be a Hydrogen Station in the parking lot; it looks very similar to a gas station. You will need to come to the two double glass doors in the front of the facility below our address- 12610. You will also need to ring the buzzer, let our Administrator know that you have an appointment with , and she will let you in.

The test will take about 5 - 10 minutes to complete. We will simply be plugging in a scan tool to your OBDII (your vehicles computer) and downloading data from your emissions sensors. It is a way of monitoring the emissions of our vehicles, and is a government regulated program. After the test has been completed, you will receive a gift card from Target for $25.

If you have any questions, concerns, or if you need to reschedule this appointment, please do not hesitate to give me a call:

Toll Free: or Direct Line:

Thank you again for your participation and we will see you on:

They did offer - saying it'd be a $25 gift card. A gift card to/for what? From TJPark01's post I see it's for Target. For me, Chino is a couple hour drive... not worth it to me.
