  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai, now a world-class engine manufacturer, may lend engine technology to Mercedes-Benz for a future four-cylinder powerplant. It was just a few short years ago that DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai banded together in the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance (GEMA) to build the so-called World Engine (pictured at right). The GEMA engine, with displacements ranging from 1.8-liters up to 2.4-liters, is found under the hood of more than a handful of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai products.

I know this post is a few months old but I will chime in about the 2.4L engine.

I have a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 which uses the Hyundai 2.4L engine mated with a Mitsu Turbo.

Being this engine is made by Hyundai I have come to think better of Hyundai and there products.

And this is also a reason why I am not thinking twice about the new TAU engine they are producing for the Genesis which I plan to buy once they are available.

Hi Jerrad.. Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up! I actually didn't know the SRT-4 was using a Hyundai engine.. Very interesting. I'm impressed by that. There's a pretty large following for the SRT-4!

Thank you. Indeed we have a great group of people around here. We're all open-minded and respect other makes and models...

Actually, the engine in the Neon SRT-4 isn't an Hyundai. Chrysler only started using the GEMA engine in the Caliber. Another thing about the GEMA engine is that Hyundai was the initial designer. Chrysler and Mitsubishi developed their own heads for the GEMA engine. For example, the EVO X uses a GEMA engine with Mitsubishi's MIVEC.

But you have to respect Hyundai for laying the ground work for a great engine that can be found in numerous cars. I look forward to future development of the GEMA engine, especially in the Genesis Coupe. I might have to trade in my STi if Hyundai actually builds a great sports car.
