If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REPORTS MAY SALES

• Soaring demand leads to all-time record May sales
• Design, residual values, and fuel economy clicking with customers

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 06/02/2010

Hyundai Motor America today announced sales of 49,045 vehicles in May, a 33 percent increase versus May 2009 and an all-time May sales record for Hyundai. The all-new Sonata and Tucson saw sales soar 92 percent and 227 percent, respectively, over last May. This marks the seventeenth consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for Hyundai and the best share month this year. Year to date, Hyundai sales are up 23 percent compared with 2009.

“As we continue to refresh and expand our model line-up, we are clearly appealing to customers who have placed Hyundai on their shopping list for the very first time,” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America’s vice present of national sales. “This considerable broadening of our customer base comes at a time when we are continuing to reduce our fleet mix, thus improving the overall quality of our market share.

“For the third straight month, our all-new Sonata is the third-best selling mid-size car in the country in retail sales, well ahead of strong rivals such as Nissan Altima, Chevy Malibu and Ford Fusion,” Zuchowski added. “Sonata is the number one researched car at Edmunds.com for the eleventh straight week and consumers love Sonata’s breakthrough design, 35 mile-per-gallon fuel economy, and lower depreciation than Honda Accord.”

On a year-over-year basis, Elantra, Sonata and Tucson sales increased 30, 47 and 153 percent, respectively. Genesis achieved an all-time monthly sales record, with sales up 27 percent, marking the 11th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gain.

Azera seems to be headed toward oblivion. I wonder if there is a major redesign in the works?

I don't know why the Azera is not more popular. I owned one for four years - while not particularly fun or exciting, it was a very good car and an excellent value for the money.

It appears that there are 2 factors concerning the Azera.

First, dealers cannot get additional cars and are telling customers there is no 2011 model available in the USA.

Second, it conflicts with the Genesis particularly with the introduction of the Equus for model year 2011.

I think Hyundai is trying t avoid some of the duplication that Ford had with Ford & Mercury and GM had with Chevy, Pontiac or Buick, Olds.

Here's what Edmunds has to say about the 2011 Azera:
For 2011, the Hyundai Azera doesn't undergo any major changes, just a few tweaks and enhancements here and there. But that's just fine when you consider that this sedan is already an excellent choice with its feature-rich content and interior that defies its affordable pricing.

On the outside, the 2011 Hyundai Azera receives new LED accent lights surrounding the headlights and reworked front and rear fascias. On the inside, a new grained aluminum surface graces the center console, an "Eco" indicator is added to the instrument panel and a one-touch triple turn signal is added for lane changes.

The more notable enhancements for 2011 take place under the Azera's hood. The same 3.3-liter and 3.8-liter V6 engines return, but output has been increased by 29 and 22 horsepower, respectively. The increases in power do not come at the expense of fuel economy, as mileage increases by 11 percent for the 3.3-liter and about 7 percent for the 3.8. A new six-speed transmission with manual shift control also aids in the 2011 Hyundai Azera's fuel economy, as does the "eco" light on the gauge cluster. This indicator illuminates when the vehicle is being driven efficiently.

Among competing sedans like the Buick LaCrosse, Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon, you'd be remiss not to check out the 2011 Hyundai Azera, even as minor as the updates are for this year. Check back later in the year for a full review with additional buying advice and driving impressions.

They must be still selling them. I saw 2 Azeras in the COSTCO parking lot yesterday. One new, with temporary plates, and another that was not over a month old, according to the inspection sticker.

I really enjoyed my Azera for nearly 3 years and it was the main reason I bought the Genesis. I have progressed now from Sonata, to Azera, to Genesis.

With the Genesis, I can take curves at speeds that would never have been possible in either of the earlier cars. I am limited mostly by the lack of bolstering in the seats. Hyundai needs to put out a sport model Genesis.

Funny you should mention this. Just yesterday I was driving a twisty road and thought to myself how supportive the seat felt, especially the hip-to-shoulder bolstering. Maybe I'm wider than you and fit more snugly in the seat (?) ;)

I concur!!! I can make this car stick like glue around corners at high speeds, but I slide around in the seat due to the lack of well sporty seats. (I'm 160lbs) I miss my seat that I had in my 94 GTP, those were great seats and held me in well.

I must admit that at 200#'s, I have no problem with my seat sticking like glue to the car seat. ;) Gennie does right well hanging onto the curves!

Scott, it appears we're gonna have to do some carbo-loading on you. Have another couple of butter dripping biscuits, Buddy.

I can understand the conflict with the Genesis, especially since the base model Genesis is only $3K more than a fully loaded Azera. True, a fully loaded Azera has navigation, but you can buy a very good Garmin Nav for about $250.

But the duplication that GM, Ford, and Chrysler had in their various brands was different. Almost all of the brands discontinued had models that were exact copies of brands that were retained, with minor sheet metal and minor interior differences, that were manufactured right along side each other on the same assembly line. There were a few exceptions (brands that had unique models), but not enough of them to justify keeping the separate brands alive.

For example:

Mercury Milan = Ford Fusion
Saturn Aura = Chevy Malibu

According to the Hyundai press release, the refreshed 2011 Azera should have been hitting dealer lots in the Spring.

Maybe Hyundai delayed delivery or just put a kibash on the whole thing since the next-gen Azera is undergoing final testing and should hit the US shores some time next year (altho Hyundai may delay that and let KIa get all the glory w/ the Cadenza in 2011).

Hyundai needs the new Azera, esp. in snowy climates due to its FWD drivetrain.
