If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai announced Tuesday that it sold 14 percent more vehicles in January than it did a year earlier, bucking an industry trend of declining sales.

Hyundai said it sold 24,512 vehicles last month, up from 21,452 a year earlier.

The Montgomery-made Sonata remained the company’s top-seller with 8,508 sales last month, up 85 percent from year-earlier levels. The Santa Fe saw a 35 percent improvement to 5,024 sales.

(1,056 Gens sold in January)

If Gens sold 1056 in Jan, that would be a yearly rate of 12,600 but their goal was 50,000 Gens a year.

So, is the Genesis way behind plan?

Uhh, the 50K figure was for sedan and coupe sales combined.

Hyundai's goal for the sedan is 20K in sales. In this economy, if Hyundai moves 15K of the sedans in 2009, that would be a "success".

YES- well behind. 50,000 was Hyundai's stated goal for the Genesis- including the coupe. Hyundai has no choice but to offer incentives on the sedan in order to reach their 20,000 sedan goal (and perhaps even 30,000 coupes?). Or Hyundai could say - "the heck with our goal" and just keep everything in check.

It appears the Azera sales are suffering on account of the success of the Sonatas. The Sonata is a lot of car for the money. Depreciation- on the other hand...

I wonder if Hyundai's historic depreciation trends will improve. At current depreciation rates, a patient buyer need wait only 18 months before being able to save +25% on a Hyundai.

Will there be used Genesis sedans on the market next Fall in the low $20k's?
Who knows?

So with 20,000 sedans only 4k were planned to be V8? I might have more exclusivity than MB E class or 5 series from BMW.

I thought that figure was WORLDWIDE figures, not just North America.

No, 50,000 was Hyundai's stated goal for just the North American market.

Keep in mind that the stated goals were made prior to the economy going into a freefall due to the subprime fiasco.

New auto sales are down over 30% from last the same time last year.

At this juncture, I'd think that Hyundai would be very happy w/ 14-15k sales of the sedan and another 22-23k of the coupe.

Keep in mind that the sedan is selling just about as well as the M35/45 for Infiniti and better than offerings from Acura and the GS from Lexus.

Anyway, here's a NYTimes article on Hyundai Assurance program and its effect on market share.

In Canada, Hyundai's January sale gone up 19% compare with Jan 2008. That means Hyundai is offering customers the right cars at the right price at the right time!

Given the economic situation, the low price of Hyundais, the new offer they have to return your car if you lose your job, and the fact that people are realizing that Hyundais are very reliable cars, I'm not surprised that Hyundai would be doing this well in a recession. Times are certianly changing.
