  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is my today experience with Hyundai and their dealer.

1. I was promised an answer on the steering wheel button problem today. I have been trying to get this fixed since the first week in November 2008. The dealer has now said don’t call us; we will call you when Hyundai gives us a fix.

2. I called 1-800-633-5151, which I have as the Genesis direct telephone number, after letting it ring a very long time, I received a telephone company message saying they were discontinuing the telephone call.

3. I decided to call Hyundai Motor America, 18335 Mount Langley Street, Fountain Valley, CA 92708 (714) 378-5135. The telephone message was, the mail box is full.

When I first purchased the car, I would take a list of items needing repair to the dealer. When nothing would get fixed, I shorten the list to those items on the left hand side of the steering wheel. You have to own this car to understand why you would want these buttons working. Who care if the windshield defrost works. Remember don't drive if you can't see.

I know on this site if you say anything bad about Hyundai you get jumped on, but if you are undecided about buying a Genesis, DO NOT DO IT. If I had money this car would be gone.

Everything about your post was credible EXCEPT for your last statement. There are many, many of us who have had great experiences with our cars. I've owned mine since Feb '09 and have not taken it back to the dealer once. I'm not challenging you on your claims, it sounds like you've had a rough time and that stinks, but you are going to an extreme in suggesting people don't buy this car if they are on the fence for whatever reason.

Good luck and let's hope Hyundai finally gets your problem fixed!!

Have to agree with mk1 said. It also sounds like you need to try a new dealership if at all possible!

I don't have much to add other than I wish all Genesis owners had as good of an experience as I have thus far. In 18 months of ownership the Genesis ranks near the top of all the cars I've owned, and I'm including Hyundai of America's customer service.

I sincerely hope your problems are rectified in a timely manner and you can find a way to "enjoy the ride", especially since getting rid of it is not an option (per your post). Do you have another dealer in your area?

You have every right to be upset, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Reliability of Hyundai has significantly increased in recent years. Not surprisingly though, Hyundai still ranks towards the bottom (well below average) in sales and service experience ratings. With a few notable exceptions from Hyundai enthusiasts, their service is quite unsatisfactory on the whole. This and this alone will keep them from being taken seriously in the "luxury" market.

As I've said before - they're nicely carving a niche for themselves with the Genesis. Many are fine with getting a good deal on a premium car with a few luxury features and a quality fit and finish while sacrificing some refinement, prestige and the service experience. I was not and I suspect the Equus will be an immeasurable failure if they continue to provide Elantra level service on a $60k price tag.

I would follow the advice previously posted and try another dealer before giving up all hope. Hyundai dealers are very hit or miss, especially the non-standalone dealers.

Good luck. Hang in there.

Don't blame the dealer. Blaine yourself for not seeking help at other other dealers since you had a crappy time with your original dealer.

Fwiw, dealer/service department quality is sketchy and varies across the board. I have another car that when it needs to go to a dealer, I drive to another city as the two local dealerships are horrible to deal with, and forget taking my bike to the local dealer - they are outright crooks.

To the OP, there's the alternative dealership option, but as for contact phone numbers, I have no idea - did you try the numbers printed in the owner's manual?

There have been a number of people with issues related to the steering wheel buttons and as far as I can tell the navigation unit stereo system. Do you have a navigation package Genesis?

Take your car to another dealer. If they cant or dont fix it, take it to another one. Your not bound by the dealer you bought it from. Its all under warranty which is one of the best in the industry. GO and get these things fixed if they are broke.
