Hyundai hosted "Hyundai-Kia International Powertrain Conference" near Seoul, Korea yesterday, and unveiled the production versions of V8 5.0 GDi and the 8-speed auto transmissions.
here are some specs:
-V8 5.0 GDi
Max. output: 435 PS (HP figure should be less than that..)
Max. torque: 52.0 kg*m (1kg = 2.2 pounds; 1m = 3.28ft.. You do the math, haha)
Interestingly, Hyundai presented the numbers along with Toyota's 5.0 GDi engine for comparison. (As far as I know, that's Lexus IS F's.. It's engine is rated at 426PS and 51.3kg*m.. I am driving IS F)
- 8 speed auto tranny
Max torque allowed: 55.0 kg*m (Note that the 8 speed tranny first showcased in 2009 was rated at 44.0 kg*m)
I don't know much about the technology behind it, but the company says the transmission is especially noted for shift-by-wire mechanism, direct-control solenoid valves, and aluminum carriers.
And Hyundai boasts about the fact that their 8-speed is the first 8sp transmission developed by a "car manufacturer" (as opposed to powertrain manufacturer). The company also says this transmission was developed for luxury sedans and SUVs. Maybe they are talking about the successor to Veracruz and/or Kia's Borrego?
