Interesting stuff. South Carolina outlawed Tesla's storefronts, along with other states that claim they are misrepresenting themselves as a dealership. That's heavy lobbying by dealerships at a time of consolidation in their ranks. Larger dealerships are gobbling up dealerships statewide, including my Genesis and Hyundai dealer along with a half dozen others. One was a local dealership owned for decades by a former president of National Automobile Dealers Association.

I see Teslas around town and there are charging stations throughout the state. While I don't agree with what the state has done to Tesla, direct to consumer sales beg the question about service. Maybe the next wave will be service centers with contracts with multiple manufacturers, similar to what has happened with collision repair centers.

Competition used to be a cornerstone of capitalism, but the foundation is certainly being stressed.
