  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Get the same color that you have now, preferably. And I'd buy it from the dealer. Just bought the OEM pink coolant from a dealer for both my '23 G70 and '22 SF Calligraphy (that's what both have), and it wasn't 50/50, so pay attention to that. It has to be diluted 50/50 with distilled water. Older vehicles have either green or blue, so check out which one. I think the blue comes in 50/50. You could buy aftermarket too, but make sure it's long life, to be compatible.

If you are going to add just a bit to the reservoir, do you still have to dilute it? Just wondering if it really matters!

No

Depends what you consider 'a bit' and what your climate is like. Cold climates can use a higher concentration while warmer climates could take advantage of a lower concentration.

Even though it is called 'Coolant' it actually doesn't keep the engine cool. Straight distilled water is better but coolant prevents corrosion and freezing.

Dumbfounds me why premixes are so popular these days. I have to go out of my ways to find concentrates now. Is mixing with distilled water at $1.20/gal that much of an issue? If you keep it simple at 50/50 (and nothing wrong with that for most locales), it is about as easy as it gets.

I'm not arguing for it, just giving some reasons...
To mix it, you have to have another container or a bigger container, and you have to label it correctly,
Your reservoir is just a little low and you want to add some with the least trouble. (Yes, I would just add a little distilled water or a little anti-freeze and not worry about that slight change is mix percentage. People that don't understand how all this works would be too worried to do that.)
Sometimes ever so slightly easier is worth the expense.

Laziness. Most people are lazy and gravitate to easy or convenience. It's why we have things like DoorDash, instant potatoes, Bluetooth/ Alexa light controls.

I know that my bike runs cooler with a water/ water wetter mix. But then I have to drain it to add antifreeze in cooler parts of the season to avoid the risk of it freezing.

I run it with a 30 mix. 😉

Sure, no doubt convenience is what's driving sales of premixes.

I guess I've messed with cars for so long, it has become a no-brainer. I've collected lots of used empty coolant bottles in my garage, so I just recycle them as mixing bottles. Permanent marker makes relabeling easy.

Seems folks are willing to put up with complexity, but only when it suits their needs or interests. I remember going with my wife to visit one of her friends, and we entered their house through the garage, and I saw 50/50 coolant bottles on the shelve, amongst other items. Later, the homeowners were all so proud to showcase their new $1500 Italian expresso machine and explained how they went through great lengths to source their favorite coffee beans, and how the process has to be done exactly right to make the perfect brew. I'm no coffee connoisseur and couldn't tell the difference, but I kept that to myself.

Espresso is an art. Each bean requires different grind levels, amounts and pour time.

I got my machine thinking I'll be able to mix beans for unique flavours and learned that it takes time to dial in individual beans for a good espresso.

Now I use the Costco espresso bean cause it's good, consistent roast level and easy to grab when I run low. Convenience. 😜
