  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I knew I had chosen well. Please read this

But you have a Hyundai that you bought from a Hyundai dealer for a Hyundai price and had it serviced at Hyundai service. The xperience is never going to compare with Audi, but your next Genesis will.
Sorry, but with 1 or 2 dealerships per state, it will never match Audi (or Mercedes, BMW, etc.,). The "experience" of either driving your car 50 or more miles each way (maybe way more in some states) or having some "valet" stranger drive (and possibly abuse) your car every time you need service is not my idea of a good experience.

Some owners are not happy with having a Hyundai dealer service the car either or even the shared waiting room at a Hyundai dealer. The stand alone Genesis dealer solves that problem but the other is distance. It was mentioned that PA will have two, one each in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The state is about 400 miles long do that can be a long drive unless there is one in central NY or similar. Not enough sales to support a lot of stand alones, but too far apart will hurt sales too.

Unless they plan to continue to keep some Hyundai/Genesis dealers it will be a long path to sales success. Sales seem to be geographic too. I see very few in my area. Two weeks ago, I drove from CT to Florida and did not notice one Genesis along the way. Once there, I saw quite a few. On the way back, I saw two, one stopped by the Stae Police in NC and not nother since.

Many buyers of German luxury cars don't care that much about reliability, since the only keep the car while under warranty.
Really? I don't know the cost difference in the USA, but here in the UK the German luxury cars cost considerably more, and if I was paying that kind of money I would expect perfect reliability. I also see the German makes regularly mentioned in recalls, and they don't mess about. It's usually problems with brakes or steering, that is, some major safety features. Just, by the way, Land Rover had a recall because of safety air bag problems. Imagine finding out the airbags were problematic just when they are needed. :( I think Hyundai are to be complimented on their build quality and reliability, and at the lowest price.

Since you correctly noted, German cars seem to have a lot maintenance issues and they are expensive to maintain out of warranty, the only way to account for their high sales levels in the USA is that most people only own then under warranty, or they have so much money they don't care (but people with that much money tend to buy new cars before the warranty runs out). 20-40 years ago, German cars were very reliable, but now their engineering is getting ahead of reliability as automobiles are much more complex these days.

Besides, I was only speaking about German cars in the USA. German cars are obviously popular in Germany for other reasons. Also, warranty terms and repair costs vary by country, regardless of the manufacturer.

BTW, early models of the Hyundai Genesis had a Hyundai Mandatory Service Campaign for airbag issues (TSB 09-01-006). The TSB procedure was update software in the Genesis Airbag Control Unit (ACU), so that it would deploy correctly.

Owned a 2014 Cadillac SRX before the Genesis - left headlight had water intrusion, master brake cylinder replaced, water intrusion power tail gate, right head light water instruction, front end aligned twice ( went of warranty - traded in)
2014 Audi A5 purchased new - scheduled maintenance (free) that's it.

Guess I must be really lucky!

I didn't mean to suggest that German cars are less reliable than American cars. But compared to Japanese and Korean cars, they are less reliable according to Consumer Reports, based on statistical surveys completed by their readers.

However, I was thinking mostly of BMW and MB. Audi had its share of major problems in years past, but seems to have done much better recently. Also, reliability varies by model and options, as the newest most sophisticated technology features often have the most problems.

I bought a used 2016 Hyundai Genesis Luxury with 11000 Kilometers from Hyundai Gallery here in Calgary a month ago.Had a noise @ the base of the windshield when I used the wipers the 1st time on the 2nd day of ownership & stopped in to the dealership.Salesman took me to the service counter & introduced me to the Shop foreman who came out with another technician to look @ the car.1/2 hour later after taking apart the mouldings & refitting a bracket it was fixed.
As a (7 years ago) retired 30 year veteran Mercedes-Benz salesman I speak from experience this would have NEVER happened with MB service.I would have had to book an appointment in a week or so.
Very happy .Guess it depends on your local dealer.
These really are wonderful cars.
