  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi. I have a 2019 G80 3.3 twin turbo with 103,600 miles. Dealer said the engine block is damaged and the entire motor needs to be completely replaced for $20,000.

I was told that oil was leaking (undetectable by me) causing the damaged block. Because there is no way to prove it was not an error on the last oil change (over tightening the filter), there is no way Genesis would possibly make an exception with the 100k warranty.

Any thoughts, recommendations, etc, please?

I spoke to an auto appraiser who pretty much said to steer clear of the brand. Something about Hyundai being known for have engine issues.

I love my Genesis!

Thank you.

Hyundai did have an engine problem, but it was NOT a Genesis engine.

I see a couple of options, all expensive. Replace the engine. Assuming the rest of the car is in good shape, it should last you another 100k miles or more. Given the overall age and miles, along the way expect normal wear to pop up.

In spite of the engine, there is some value if you can find the right buyer. There are people that would replace it with a junk yard engine and make some money when they sell it. You won't get much for it. Talk to a couple of local shops, you may be able to do the same for a lot less money. It will be a used engine, so some risk on wear.

What is the value of the car with a new engine? Looking at some numbers, it is close to breakeven. Maybe walking away and getting something new would be just as fiscally prudent. Check the range of values here for starters
