  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

friend borrowed my car, called me later saying the car doesn’t drive when it’s put on D and tries to move and that the car only goes into reverse. Mechanic checked and says the transmission valve body needs to be replaced. Can anyone help with getting that particular part. Been searching but haven’t had any success

Did he try anything crazy, like throwing it into "R" (for "Race") at 70 mph?

Year, model, mileage? Was the transmission fluid ever changed?

He’s been sketchy with the details, mechanic says the transmission fluid is intact, but it’s the solenoids on the valve body that’s been damaged. Don’t know if I’m getting the technical terms right but that’s the info I have now

Okay, so it's a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The G80 branding started in 2017.

No one can diagnose this over the internet. It sounds like you friend did something bad to the car. But who knows. Take it to a transmission shop and see what they recommend. Good luck.

Do not lose hope this same exact situation happened to me Same exact scenario 😅 I should have never borrowed my vehicle to someone else You have to take caution with these so called Transmission Shops unless you really trust them Most don't understand the Genesis G80 8 Speed AT functionality very well Technically you need an advanced professional scan tool that can read "Automatic Transmission live data" in the AT Menu to show you the actual active parameters of each active solenoid when the vehicle is on and you running through the gear shifting in order to determine which solenoid is dysfunctional In my particular case I found out that it was Torque Converter Solenoid ALSO Check the wire harness connector and cabling from AT to the TCM
