  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ideas about cause of catastrophic failure of my 5.0 R-spec

Glad you will have a happy ending. These engines take a lot of oil and I can see the Quickeeeee guy putting in 4 quarts and done. I'm afraid to take my car to one just to save 10 bucks.
Not happy ending at all. My car has been at dealer for 4 months. Continual lies from Lithia Hyundai of Anchorage. I have to pay for motor tear down at $3600. And since the roads are icey in Alaska I cannot drive my car home. Bearing failure was confirmed as cause of motor seizing. Hyundai outsourced that bearing in the 5.0 r-spec as part was cheaper from China. Junk

Where was your extended warranty from that you had to pay 3600 for a teardown even though the failure was covered?

Warranty company covers 1 hour of tear down labor. To pinpoint the actual failure a complete teardown is charged 24 hours of labor to the customer. Why is this necessary to do when the motor was seized. At that point the motor should have just been replaced.....instead the dealer gets to charge me $3600 on top of other new parts required. The replacement motor with 40k mi is $8700plus labor to install. The kicker is....on the 27th of November my car has been at the dealer 4 months! What would one do without their car so long? And the warranty company would not pay that amount of rental time. Lots of shady behaviors are adding up to ultimate still screwing over the customer even with a warranty

This is a great example of why you should never buy an extended warranty from a third party company. Always buy from the manufacturer.

So this is TS4runner but my account was hacked. So it took 7 months to replace my motor in Alaska. The donor motor was supposed to be 40k mile motor. Anyway fast forward to shipping my car across N. America to VA and 8k miles on this motor, it acts up. Flat bedded to the dealer again, where I am told your motor has a knock and needs to be replaced! Mechanic said my car has a 200k mile motor not a 40k mile motor. Now to get the VIN from the donor block and research the car it came from. Praying I was lied to about the 2nd faulty motor and I can get a lawyer to help me with fraud from old dealer. So not sure at this point if I want to keep my Genesis after a 3rd motor will be installed.

My repair cost $11700 and 7 months in Alaska. Car is now back at dealer for 3rd motor. The replacement motor was supposed to be a 40k specimen, but mechanic said no way, more like 200K miles. My Genesis only has 63k original miles, but now at 3rd motor. I hope 3rd is charm or I will part with her.

Tell me about it. These cars are not known for the issues mind has. I am hoping I can search the vin off my replacement motor that went bad. How can a 48k mile motor look like a 200k mi motor? Mechanic said such.

I hate to hear what you’re going through, but it is interesting. Thanks for keeping us posted.
