  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Well, my '12 5.0 R-spec has finally fallen to the inevitable whining idler bearing. I have an appointment on Tuesday at the dealership to have that corrected. Besides that issue, I have starting experiencing a slight slip in the transmission. As I slow down, either from HWY speeds or during local traffic, and then start to accelerate again, the transmission feels like it is slipping to get to the next gear. has anyone ever experienced anything similar? The service manager told me that our TCU needs to reset, just like a computer or cell phone. He told me that the TCU "learns" the way the owner drives and adjusts over time to give maximum performance/fuel economy. I have never heard of a TCU needing to be reset.

Thanks ahead for your input/feedback.

How many miles are on your car? If over 60k , Have you had the transmission serviced at 60k miles.
There is no such thing as lifetime transmission fluid unless the life is expected to be about 100k miles.

Car has 44,xxx miles on her. All recommended service has been performed, on time.

If you are the original owner or car is cpo, the transmission is covered by the 10year 100,000 mile warranty. If not then 60k mile warranty. Take it to your dealer, get a free loaner and don't give them the loaner back until after the fix and a test drive.

Car is CPO. I am aware of the 10/100 yr power train coverage. I'm just confused about the "resetting the TCU" part. Never heard of that. And a loaner is in order. I've already explained to the dealership that the issue needs to be addressed and corrected.

There are a lot of 2012 3.8s that have had to have the tranny replaced because of delayed engagement of the next band during an up-shift, myself included. You will find a number of threads in here about this. Now whether this is your problem or not, I couldn't say. But with myself, and almost every other example I've heard of, the Tech department wanted to reset the TCU, and let it relearn your driving patterns, to see if that helped. I my case, it just made things worse.

Update....Idler pulley has been replaced and the noise is no more. Dealer took the car for a drive to see if he can feel what I felt while driving and he told me that the tranny started shifting weird. He pulled the drain plug and he told me that the transmission fluid was foamy. Not good. Not good at all.

I predict a new transmission in your near future!

So, one week later and still driving the loaner. 2015 5.0 Ultimate. Caspian black and black interior. Nice car. Love the interior, exterior is staring to warm me over, BUT i want and miss MY R-spec.

I just bought my R-spec last week, the dealer replaced the transmission and told me that there was a recall of some sort, if you are the first owner they should replace it for you.

There was a shift issue as you described with mine as well, the relearn didn't solve it so they replaced it.

So, took a trip to the dealer this morning. VERDICT: Failed transmission pan gasket. Fluid leaked out little at a time over time (2.5 quarts to be exact). Fluid came out and dust and dirt found it's way in. Filter completely clogged and 5 of the 8 forward gears covered in debris as well. Dealer "offered" to replace the 5 gears. Ahhhh, NO WAY!! The dealer was actually nice and said he had to ask because Hyundai advised him to do so. A new tranny was ordered at 8.00 AM this morning, is being overnight-ed and will be delivered and installed tomorrow. So, hopefully I will have my baby as of tomorrow evening or the latest, Weds.

I wonder if that's what happened with mine. They never could tell me.

Well, got my baby back. Car shifts amazing and I am glad to have her back.

My 2013 (3.8) had a whining idler pulley replaced at about 45k miles and the transmission replaced 10k miles later. Both were done under warranty. My first trip to the dealer about the transmission resulted in them resetting to factory default. Worked for a couple of weeks and then back to slipping. They replaced the transmission no more questions asked. Have had no more problems since. Great car. I love it.
