  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Most higher end cars employ window "indexing." This happens when a door is opened the window goes down a half inch or so so that when you close the door you don't need to slam it to get it to latch because of air pressure.

I've noticed with my Genesis that it takes a good slam to latch the door because the windows don't index.

I can't find anything in the owners manual to set this feature. Did Hyundai leave it out?

Seems like it would take just a few lines of code to include so I'm thinking I missed it somewhere.

Did I miss it or is it just not there?

Never seen this on anything but convertibles and this is to ensure a proper seal. My 1996 Mercedes SL does just that. No this car does not index. Very high end cars "soft close".

I saw "soft close" doors in the manual, but I don't know if that was US/Canada option.

I think that is KDM option, also maybe available in Middle East, etc.

I've had non-convertibles that do the indexing, but they were setup so that the glass was the upper part of the door (not metal above it). Definitely same idea, but not just convertibles. That being said, I've not personally seen a non-convertible and metal-top door that indexed.

Automatic window indexing is done for frameless Windoes. I have never seen it on a framed window. You typically only see frameless windows on coupes and convertibles.

That may be a good idea to post to the Hyundai Think Tank site. Sounds like something they could do with a software upgrade. Just not sure how they would know not to roll down the windows if it was raining...

My brother-in-law's 2014 Camaro has indexing, frameless windows. He was proud that the reason was that the car is sealed so tight that it needed to be done to make it easier than close the doors - until I pointed out that it was actually done because the window would hit the roof edge if closed when fully up - so it partially closes and finishes after the door is shut to avoid the interference (likely allows a better seal on the top edge that way as well).

My 2012 Genesis Coupe had indexing windows. As GenesisCaptain mentioned, its mainly on convertibles and coupes with frameless doors. Hyundai knows how to do it and applies accordingly.

Thanks for the replies.

My last 3 cars have been Corvette, Corvette and 370z. I guess I thought all were doing it.

Must be that my Genesis latch needs attention.
