  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone, first post for me for my 2016 Genesis sedan. All of he buttons on both my fobs have suddenly stopped working. When I press any button the red light flashes but nothing happens. As I approach the vehicle the automatic side mirrors extend, and I can open the door by pressing the button on the handle. The push button start on the vehicle works, and the car starts every time. I have replaced the batteries in both fobs and have tested the new batteries with my battery tester. The fobs have worked perfectly for a year and both stopped working at the same time. I have done a search on this and other sites but have been unable to find my exact problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Giggsy

That's fascinating.

This would seem to imply that the radio that listens for remote control (door unlock, trunk open, etc---the part that's not working), is a separate system/frequency/protocol from the radio that communicates with the FOB to authenticate it (the part that IS working). I guess that shouldn't be a surprise, I guess I never thought they'd be separate is all.

Someone with more expertise in this should chime in, but, it seems to me the only two logical explanations can only be:
1) There is radio interference on that exact frequency (but, then, when you tried this with the car elsewhere, you'd expect that to be cleared up?)
or
2) Whatever radio receiver is in the car listening for remote control commands has either broken, or disconnected from the car battery.

But there doesn't seem to be any way it can be the fob itself---after all, why should both stop working at the same time? There are fresh batteries, the fob appears to be working, etc. So I have to think it's a radio receiver subsystem in the car.
