  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

So I have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan 3.8, having some starting issues, Vehicle is equipped with a remote starter tried starting it figured it would nothing, then fee days later tried the puch to start nothing, starter clicks once, few minutes later hit the start again and it fired right up, and this goes on and on for like a month now, Havent taken it to the dealer yet, any suggestion?

Is this an aftermarket remote start with a keyfob (these vehicles came equipped only with internet/app based remote start from the factory)? Does it fail to start using both the pushbutton on the dash and the keyfob, or only when using the pushbutton? Have you tried pushing the keyfob into the start button as described on page 5-10 of the manual (used to start the car if the keyfob battery fails)? Have you tried both keyfobs that came with the car?

If the interior lights are on, do they dim significantly when the engine starts or tries to start and fails? Are there any other odd indications (warning lights, wipers, etc)? Dimming lights could be a battery issue, while other electrical symptoms could indicate a short in the wiring.

Have you tried jump-starting the car to see if it starts reliably? Jump-starting from the terminals in the engine compartment bypasses the wiring from the battery. If it starts reliably when jump-starting, this may indicate a short in the vehicle's wiring.

Have you noticed any trends on whether this occurs with a hot or cold engine? If so, it may indicate a sensor issue in the engine. I've specifically seen these symptoms (starts when cold but not when hot) with a failing crankshaft position sensor on other cars, but I don't know if it applies to the Genesis.

My gut instinct is it's likely a wiring issue (either the car's wiring or the remote starter). Unfortunately, the dealer may try to blame the problem on the aftermarket remote start instead of troubleshooting. It might be wise to take it to the shop that installed the remote starter before trying the dealership.

So the remote starter is an aftermarket one, cannot go back to the dealer moved to the west coast. And I purchased it pre-owned
When the car tries to start all the lights are on and they dont dim at all, it started happening when the weather got hot, but just since the other day when its cold as well, funny you say that the dealer would blame it on the remote starter and thats exactly what they did, and the problem still persist.
