  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

I am Larry and just bought a fully loaded, AWD Genesis 2016. I love this car! My main priority was comfort and quiet for long drives (yes, my wife and I are old farts and frequently drive 4 hours to see our kids and grand kids). This car did not disappoint ... much quieter than our M35 Infiniti. Anyway, I am glad there is a forum because I am sure I will have questions (and hopefully answers) in the future.

Actually I have a few now ... and am not sure which of the Forums to post them on. They are Newbie questions.

1. Every time I start the car the radio seems to turn on. Is that a default mode? How do I change it?

2. Is there any way to modify the 10 minute remote start maximum via bluelink. It is a great feature and I will likely continue paying for it ... but here in the North Country (we live near the Adirondacks by Lake George, NY), the I like to start m car 20 minutes or so ahead ... melts the snow etc. Are any 3rd party vendors able to bootstrap on this system? What have folks tried.

3. Like many others I am waiting for Apple CarPlay. My salesman said it would likely be available as a free upload this year. Any thoughts or information?

4. Although it is AWD, I will likely need Snow Tires. (I live on a mountain and it can be difficult driving up in a snowy winter). Any recommendations? All wheels or are just 2 sufficient.

As I said, I will repost these questions to more appropriate sections if needed.

Thanks

Larry

All wheels. All Wheels. All WHEELS. ALL WHEELS. ALL WHEELS!

Would you buy an HDTV to watch VHS movies. One of the main benefits of AWD is driving in snow. It's AWESOME!

Everyone around you is struggling to get their front wheels to grab and you're lurching ahead.

Welcome aboard, Larry! And thank you for signing up! Congratulations on your new 2016 Hyundai Genesis! You made a great choice...

Many years ago I had a RWD car with snows only on the rear, and it was OK. But I suspect that having snow tires only on the rear of an AWD is a big no-no.

:welcome: aboard Larry. Congrats on the new ride. Post all questions car related in the "General 2015-2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Discussion".

Here is my 2 cents:

1) - I will look through the manual tonight and get back to you. I listen to music so I never bothered to see if there was a function to keep the radio from coming on. I presume you turned off the radio then shut down the car, restarted it and it came back on, correct?
2) - No regarding Bluelink 10 minutes. Ask Midnightsun regarding an alternate type of system that he installed. He is on this forum and will be able to help you our for sure.
3) - No updates yet. We all have our fingers crossed.
4) - From South Florida but I would recommend 4 tires not 2 just two. Some forum members are having luck with no snow tires and just going with what came on the car but you would have to try that out first to see if car can handle your mountain

Mismatching tires in general is a no-no on AWD cars and will lead to premature diff failure.

Thanks for the welcome and answers. I will repost some in the Forum you suggested.

- I think that I do shut the radio off. I will try to notice next time.

- I wonder why the 10 minute limit was set (EPA?) and whether Hyundai will ever change that? It is annoying ... not enough time to melt the ice on the windshields up here.

- One quick added question: How do I fine my average or cumulative fuel economy (MPG)? I only see the MPG for the current fill-up. Is there a page with the historical record that I am not seeing?

Welcome Larry
As a test for the radio issue I would try using the USB stick last and see if comes back on in that mode or radio again.
I don't think there is an MPG history feature in the system. I know on mine the calculated MPG is usually about 2 MPG more then the actual measured MPG at fill up but it is consistant.

There is a roller know on your steering wheel that scrolls through various gas mileage related item. (Trip A & Trip B). I don't think it keeps historical data once you re-fill your tank.
