Hi everyone,
Just created this account today after finding this great site. I’m a very proud owner of what I think most of you call a 2015 G80? To my knowledge there were only around 48 Genesis cars imported to the U.K., all 3.8 petrol between 2014-2016. My car is a 2015 in Silver with Black interior.
It was originally purchased by my parents a couple of years ago, but now they are retired and off exploring the world most of year, and they only needed one car (a Mercedes - probably a swear word on here), so its been passed to me to own and it’s part of my small collection of 3 old Jaguars (probably another swear word) and Vauxhall Insignia (aka Buick Regal to the States).
I’ve got to say - I love it! The customer service from Hyundai puts Jaguar to shame and it’s a joy to own. And given that there were only 48 (apparently) imported to the U.K., its very rare here, so I plan to keep a hold of it. It was partially de-badged at the factory and only carries the Genesis name, no Hyundai branding at all, and no one, even the car geeks over here, know what it is, with the most common guess being Aston Martin, due to the Wing shaped Genesis badging. It gets a lot of attention.
The car is based now in Edinburgh, Scotland with me, and to my knowledge it’s the only one in Scotland, with the remaining 47 being south of the border in England. I did some digging and it seems the car was originally supplied to Belfast, Northern Ireland. Unfortunately, I don’t know much more about it. Genesis was only allowed to be sold through a minority of the U.K. Hyundai dealer network, luckily one was my local branch (which only sold one Black Genesis in 2015 - which was sent to England), so servicing isn’t an issue as they have a trained Genesis workshop. But there are no other outlets for owner support, no accessories or literature available over here. Genesis was discontinued in the U.K. late 2016/early 2017 due to low sales - most likely because of the lack of Diesel engine option and also because the British car buyer is still typically very snobby when it comes to the executive market and no one wanted to buy a thirsty Hyundai for £60,000.
So that’s my car in a nut shell, I’m hoping to use this forum to learn more about what I have and expand my knowledge. I created a U.K. owners register on Facebook to try and generate some support for us U.K. owners but so far I’m the only one on my page. I also own and run the worldwide Jaguar XJ40 Register and have started a U.K. Genesis Register, and so far have found 10 of the 40 odd cars sent over here, a lot of work to do on that.
Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough, I’ll try and add some pictures if the programme will let me.
Kind Regards
