  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The more information you give the better the answer you may get.

Is this a new situation? Did it pair before?

Is the software for both phone and car up to date?

Thank you. Yes software on 2012 Genesis has been updated recently at dealer. Pairing has to be done from iphone 12 to Genesis, not the the other way round. Automatic pairing doesn't work.
What happens is sometimes pairing drops immediately, sometimes in the middle of a call and sometimes when I try to make a call.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Worked perfectly with my old Samsung Galaxy 7

There is different up-date Blue tooth software on the iPhone 12's.

So how would you recommend I fix it? Update to Genesis or update to iPhone?
Best regards

The Genesis does not have a update to the new blue for our cars, 2009-2014. It is a newer vision of blue tooth that uses a different software. This is what I told by Apple and the Genesis tech. It will pair with the car and work as long as you do not shut off the engine. It will works for long trips, but you have to repair it each time you shut the car off.

Thanks Marty. I thought so, I have tried multiple sources and get the same answer. The iPhone works fine on my son's 2014 Tesla. I would have thought Apple and/or Genesis would provide updates, disappointing. Sometimes it will work fine while the engine is running but it still drops without warning.

I have the same problem (2009 genesis with iPhone 12). Unfortunately, it's just the bluetooth technology in your iPhone is so much newer than the tech in your car. If you have an old iPhone you can test it by pairing it and seeing the difference

Thanks Chills. It appears that Apple and Genesis (Hyundai) are both unwilling to do the necessary software changes. I paid over $1000 for the iPhone and over $45000 for the Genesis. It's not unreasonable for them to provide updates but I guess they just cant be bothered.

I know how you feel, they don't support 8 track tapes any more either.

Thanks EdP. I agree. However we are not talking about a major shift or difference in technology here. The car is still a car and the smart phone is still a smart phone and Bluetooth is still Bluetooth. Everything worked fine with my Samsung Galaxy 7 including automatic pairing. So I feel technology improvements and advances are not good excuses for ignoring downward compatibility

But who is to blame? If Apple decides they have a better idea do the 15 or 20 car makers in the world have to update their 10 year old cars to comply?

As technology advances there will be those left behind. Is it carelessness or just not possible to support both old and new? You'd have to talk to the programmers about that.

This thread is at an end. This forum is of no value to me.

Yeah Unfortunately it just isn't practical for tech companies to always ensure reliability for their products for all types of cars, no matter how nice the car is. Unless the car is within 5 years it's pretty normal for support to drop

Thanks Chills. I suppose I will have to accept:) However I have still written to Hyundai.
