If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just got an Equus and was wondering about the MP3 player options. I tried loadind my music on a USB Flash Drive. It works fine but each album is in its own folder and if you want to find an album you have to scroll down through all the albums with the controller. It's not organized by genre or artist, just a list of folders aka albums. Which is simply not workable if you have a lot of albums. So I'm wondering about the iPod integration - if I put all my music on an iPod, would I be able to search by genre or artist or get some kind of better/faster scrolling? Has anyone tried plugging their iPod into the Equus?

I use a 160gb ipod in 2010 genesis v8 w/tech and it is a horror ....just freezes all the time , dont know what to do !! dealer no help .

The sync system in the Fords (at least in my wife's 2010 Fusion) allows you to pick the type of music (rock, pop, country, etc.) but her Jeep won't allow that (seems to do the same thing you're describing - you have to sort of scroll through the albumns in order.)

I'm going to try to make a stick with the albums in folders by group and see if it will then play through every song (regardless of album) in that folder. Sounds like I may have to try this in my Genesis Coupe as well.

To answer your question, at least partially, yes an iPod could be the answer. The iPod on my iphone only has about 2000 songs, but when connected via the cable shows Artists, Genre, Albums, Playlists, Podcasts, etc. Makes for relatively easy navigation.
That said, I have no experience with a standalone iPod, or a much larger sample of music. I've read of many frustrations on this board, so your mileage may vary.
Good luck!

Theoretically, it would be, but in practice Hyundai's implementation of iPod integration is very poor. I sometimes try to search by playlist and find that it's displaying a list of artists instead. You can't get full information about the song, artist, and album you're listening to. The unit loses sync with the iPod frequently--I only had that happen twice in the two and a half years I owned the Genesis, but it's happened nine times since I got the Equus in January. It goes back to my earlier assertion that Hyundai makes a great car, but their technology is antiquated, outmoded, and continually reflects a "we don't get it at all" attitude towards what customers would like.

The way I use my USB key is that you need to be very organised.
Start by building Categoriess Folders in witch you can put you Artist folders.
Im running about 15 different Categories.
Also if you build a play list in Itune, you can export it to your USB key and have it played in the order it was built.
You can also Shuffle all, folders or categories.

All in all I dont miss my Ipod at all.

Have a great one.

Here is my experience with USB Stick ...
If folders are added to the USB Stick at a later time (after playing it in the Equus), the newly added folders are NOT recognized.
It seems necessary to Reformat the USB Stick and then transfer everything back from scratch.
Then, the newly added folders will be recognized.
Any other experiences, observations by anyone else???
All the best, WWB

No problem in my Geny. I can add and mod like I want.
In fact I change things every month.
Cant see the Equus having a different software.

Let us know:cool:

I had to set up several folders and then put the albums in the folders. Now I can "see" all the folders and all the albums/CD's in each folder so I'm back to 52 playable albums on that "stick".

I got a 2011 4.8 about a 5 weeks ago and bought a 160gb iPod just to use in the car (I have just over 19k songs on the iPod). Here is what I have found:

1 - You can only select Genre, Songs, and Playlist. Album and Artist do not work (nothing happens with Album, Artist shows Songs, not Artists). I have gone to the dealership and on other new ('11 and '12) Genesys, its the same problem.

2 - Forget about trying to find anything when using the car interface when looking for a song. You can only see (I believe its 10) at a time, then you wait about 2 seconds then can see the next ten, and so on. By the time I get where I am going, I might be down 600 or 700 songs. Why is there no way to scroll quickly, or jump to a letter? Who knows...

3 - When listening to songs, you can give "now playing" to see details. But, if you go to anything else in the system (nav, etc.) and then go back to iPod controls, you can no longer get back to "now playing" (the option is grayed out.

4 - I was told by the new car sales manager at the dealership that a new cable would soon be delivered to dealers, and it would enable additional control features. When will it arrive and what will it do? He didnt know...

5 - If I pause a song, then remove the iPod I have to turn the iPod off to get rid of the pause (it's locked on the paused song, and cannot be unpaused).

I love the car, its really great, but as so many people have noted, the iPod controls are pretty lame, especially for a car of this caliber. I find myself somteims using the output from the iPod headphones and use the iPod controls.

It's hard to track down info on what IPOD, etc. works in an Equus because there are very few IPOD's that are actually supported.

I am test driving a 2012 Equus and the owner's manual says that it is only compatible with 3rd to 5th Generation IPOD's and IPOD Mini. Not compatible with IPHONE playing Music nor 6th Gen IPOD's or IPOD Touch.

For grins I tried my 6th Generation IPOD Classic 120Gb and it partially works. You can get to Artist, Album and then song. Once you get into the list of songs for that album you cannot navigate back out and are stuck in that same list of songs until you turn the car off and on.

Even if you could get back to the menu it is pretty slow to navigate from A-Z.

This 2012 Hyundai Equus IPOD integration reminds me of my neighbors 2007 750 BMW that will only play from 5 different playlists off an IPOD.

The whole AUX USB, IPOD interface is really poor.

USB drive works great. I use a 16gig usb

I have about 90GB of Lossless Music on my IPOD so a 16GB USB Drive is not going to work.

There are 100 gig USB flash drives available for about 300.00.

Yep a 100GB USB stick might work or then it might not.
If you check the Equus manual it is very sketchy on what
works especially when it comes to USB hardware.

Based on what I have read the IPOD Classic will work OK if
you don't have much on it. Makes me wonder if 90GB music
on a 100GB Stick would even work properly.

I have a 64Gb USB drive loaded with well-organized, properly tagged MP3s in my 2012 Equus, and it is maddening to wait for the long delays for "USB scanning" and scrolling through the list of folders.

This really must be the worst thing about the otherwise outstanding Equus. Hyundai simply did a terrible job in the software side of the DIS support for iPod and USB. For that matter they did a pretty horrendous job on the XM radio interface, too.

This system obviously has enough non-volatile memory to store your XM radio categories and other prefs, so maybe they could use some of that space to store a cached copy of the iPod/USB directory structures and save us all the time wasted trying to scroll 10 folders at a time through a list of hundreds of artists. A little more effort in the design of the software would have gone a long way here.
