  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone experienced a schrill and, sometimes, undulating hum when playing their Ipod????...especially at a louder volume when listening to a softer piece of music? This sound comes and goes but is there even when an aux. cable is plugged in w/o any device attached. No one here at the dealer can explain it, and Hyundai has been very unwilling to do anything other than talk me to death......I would never have leased this car if I had known I would recieve such poor service and quality....none of my albums alphabetize when I use the ipod cable...I can only get full integration by using an aux headphone cord.....Yes I am an audiophile I must confess...Shouldn't I expect an excellent Ipod interface from this car? Please help!!!!

i have also noticed this. coincidentally, i was watching a video on youtube yesterday where they replaced their headunit with an ipad. they were getting the same problem and they said it was because it was getting an analog signal. I've heard that if you grab the audio through the 30 pin connector on the bottom it will use a digital signal and most likely clear your problem. you would need a cable that splits into USB AND 3.5mm (something similar to this). i plan to order one of these soon. ill post my results on here if i ever do get it. hope that helps

I listen to nothing but my Ipod using the Hyundai Ipod cable and have never had a problem. All my music is recorded in lossless and it is very impressive through the 17 speakers in surround sound. No hum, whistle, or snap, just great sounds.

I have complete control of the Ipod from the head unit and steering wheel controls. All playlists, album lists, and artists are listed. I can shuffle a playlist or the entire library.

I use an Ipod Classic 180g with over 6,000 songs for about 70 gig of music on it.

You may want to try a new Hyundai Ipod cable, and make sure it is plugged securely into the Ipod. Also make sure you do not store a phone or anything else electronic in the armrest.

You need to get the Hyundai iPod cable for about $30 from the dealer parts department. As you noted, using the headphone/line out will result in poor quality, probably because of an impedance mismatch.

All of you have been very helpful, but I have tried all those things to no avail...Hyundai in Tucson has no answer and corporate is no help. And th e hum continues..after trying a new ipod cable and a new aux. cable . I will keep you informed how Hyundai treats me....so far my former car co...BMW is winning!!!!!!!!

I thought those who made some helpful replies would like to know the outcome of this crazy problem...took the Genny to the dealer's west side dealership and my advisor almost immediately heard the problem. 8 business days later and hours of checking proper grounds, ordering multiple parts, replacing/testing and, finally, replacing the radio head unit, I now have a quiet and excellent sounding ipod section of the Lexicon stereo. (But I still can't get my albums to alphabetize along with other ridiculous integration problems.) What a great bunch at Jim Click Hyundai at the Auto Mall... After seeing so many people having a problem with their Lexicon and their ipod integration, isn't it time to have a separate section for us to report problems...Maybe Hyundai will wise up and do some firmware improvements. Daydreaming?

I have the Hyundai iPod cable and get a high frequency sound when its plugged in. Dealer is clueless. I just turn it up to override that annoying buzz...

Hyundai is somewhat at the mercy of their audio/video system supplier, which is Harman International (which owns the Lexicon brand). It is certainly possible that you got the firmware update with your new unit. It may not be possible (or feasible) to do a upgrade in the field on an existing unit.

If your iPod does not do that on one of the 2012 demo cars at your dealer, I would suggest to them that they need to replace the head unit. You might want to let your dealer know that other people have reported the problem on this forum, and those who got new head units got the problem resolved. Contact Hyundai Motor America if you have any problems getting satisfaction from your dealer.
