  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Love my Genesis, but I have to admit the ipod navigation is a bit clunky and needs improvement. Hopefully in a dealer update. If not, in the next generation. Here are my suggestions/pet peeves:

1. System forgets shuffle mode (Random Songs) after car shut off such that it needs to be re-enabled every time car restarted

2. No way to get to Now Playing when car started

3. Slow scrolling through artist lists. Unlike on the actual ipod, there is no way to quickly scroll down to the end of a long list without slowly going page by page. The system should load/capture the song/artist architecture when it is turned on so that this is easier to navigate quickly

4. In Random Song mode, there is no method to go into a different playlist/ artist/ etc without first turning Random Song to Off. Then of course you have to turn it back on again once you get to the new Playlist/Artist/etc

5. Allow charging of newer ipods like the Nano w video (though to be honest, this is an Apple flaw since they changed it so older charging systems such as my ipod radio and older wall charger won't charge these newer devices)

Dont forget to add Bluetooth connectivity to play songs.

I am in the process of buying a newer car and have a 2010 Genesis Sedan 4.6 with Tech package at the top of my list. The one thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the terrible Ipod integration as stated on this post.

I am searching for a possible system upgrade to fix these problems with scrolling through Artist. I have a Itouch with around 40GB of music and want to be able to instantly scroll down. It would take me 30 minutes to get down to the letter T. Is there an update expected or does Hyndai not care?

Infiniti and Nissan by far has the best Ipod integration (No lag and album art) but I would rather have the Genesis.

I contacted both Hyundai and Lexicon/Harman-Kardon about this within a week of buying my 2009 Genesis, and both spent a long time explaining how the wretched iPod integration was the fault of the other. Hyundai told me that a software improvement would be considered, but it never happened.

I'm now hearing that the recent map upgrade at least adds a crude random feature, although it's still years behind the sophistication of iPod integration available in other cars of similar price/features.

Hyundai has made it clear that their attitude is "you bought it, it's your problem" in this problem. It's one reason why I'm not committing to the Equus right off the bat; if there are any software-interface problems, I know they won't step up to address them.

Cliff,

That's odd that this isnt an issue in other brands. As you may know, Harman makes virtually all the high end navigation systems--mercedes, Bmw, porsche, etc. Seems if they had figured this out in those systems it would be fixed here as well. After all much of the software is likely the same

I thought exactly the same thing. What's even more odd is that iPod integration is much better in the standard audio system; it's the high-end system that's fouled up, and both the audio contractor and the auto manufacturer spent more than two years pointing at one another without doing anything about it.

And that's why I'm convinced that anything that's "broken" (that is, not working properly from the outset due to bad design or software issues) in the Equus will remain broken for any who buy the car prior to a fix being implemented. Hyundai has demonstrated that, once the sale is made, they have no interest in helping their clients on any issue that coudn't lead to a lemon-law forced-rebuy.

Don't get me wrong--I like my Genesis. But I'm very disappointed that Hyundai has steadfastly failed to step up to the plate on numerous problems, including this.

I've had my Genesis for 2 weeks now and absolutely love it....except for the ipod navigation, which is how I found this site!

My friend has a Scion, which he paid significantly less for than the Genesis and it's interface works alot like the GPS menu in the Genesis where you can scroll through the letters of the alphabet and it it breaks down the artist list. That would be so much nicer! As it stands, I will probably never listen to the Warren Zevon or the Zutons again because it takes 15 minutes to scroll down to the end of my artist list!

well what I do is set the ipod to the setting I want and plug it in !!!!... I don't know any other way of getting to someone thats starts with a Z ... crazy but if somebody out there knows a better way would love to hear it .... I have 70gb of music 12,000 songs on my ipod 160gb and it would take 20 mins. to get to Z --- so again the dealer has no answer !!!!! still love the car --also once a call comes in I can't get back to list of songs ...nuts but part of car that's needs to get better .. hope they fix this stuff soon ..

So the best workaround I have found so far is to use the Genre tag for you MP3s. I changed the Genre of each of songs to the first letter of the artist, so The Clash would have C as the genre, the Zutons would have Z. Then I use the genre list in my Genesis and it shows the alphabet, of which I can choose the letter of the band I want and skip right to them, it allows me to get to the last letters of the alphabet in a matter of seconds. Its not perfect, but it beats scrolling for 20 minutes! Also, if you use a program like Tag&Rename, it only a few minutes to rename the genre of 1000s of songs.
