  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have an iPod Shuffle that my new Genesis will not recognize. The message is something like, "The USB device is not supported"

Any ideas? Any similar experience? Any solutions?

Thanks,
Jeff

I think shuffle support is on the decline in general, and while I can't quote the genesis manual from memory I wouldn't be surprised if it's not officially supported.

Not trying to be rude, but can I ask why you would bother with a shuffle as opposed to a cheap USB drive or the in-car HDD since you're not going to gain any functionality?

Fair questions.

I had a shuffle, so I tried to use it. Didn't work.

Then, I tried a simple thumb drive. Same result.

I want to copy my music file onto the in-vehicle space, and can't get it to work.

As far as the flash drive goes many automotive systems require a flash drive be formatted in FAT (Many will also accept FAT32). Formats like NTFS (Windows) and HFS/HFS+ (MAC) usually won't work.

If you have the free space to do it I would try reformatting the USB drive.

Assuming Windows:
Backup the info on the flash drive to your computer as formatting will erase it.
Connect the drive and open "my computer"
Right click the flash drive in my computer and select format
Format the drive as FAT (I'd suggest quick format)
Put the music back on the flash drive
Try it in the Genesis

As a side note the Genesis transfer is fairly slow, if you're transferring a bunch I would select a few folders at a time for transfer. Leaving the USB drive in also works fine in my experience, though they advise the power cycling of the car can potentially damage it if you leave it plugged in during startup.

Italiabrain !!!

It worked! I reformatted my thumb drive, and I was able to copy the music files into the Jukebox.

Thanks very much. People like you are what make this forum work.

Quick question: Didn't want to start a new topic, but when I select media and my iPad touch starts to play it always goes to the first song as if I selected "songs" as opposed to artists or albums... It also goes back to that first song after I shut down and restart - even if in the middle of playing another album. An annoyance that I can't seem to change.

Any thoughts?

It's a known issue - how this was overlooked is beyond me.
