  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

......Royal Purple oil &/or transmission fluid, coolant....?

The Genesis sedan transmissions (all 3 of them so far) use synthetic fluid and I believe it isn't scheduled to be changed until 100K miles (check your owner's manual to be sure). The 2009-2011 Tau 4.6 engine was mated to a ZF 6-speed that uses a different synthetic transmission fluid than the 2009-2011 3.8 with Aisin 6-speed transmission, so not all synthetics have the same specs (and it is probably not accurate to say that one synthetic transmission fluid is better than the other, they are just different). I would make absolutely sure you use a fluid that meets ZF specs (check your owner's manual). Transmission fluid changes with the wrong fluid is the number one cause of transmission failure and a new ZF transmission is about $11K (not including installation).

Royal Purple motor oil is nothing special, just regular synthetic oil with purple dye. I would highly recommend that you use only Hyundai coolant, or if you must use aftermarket, make sure it is an Asian car coolant formula.

Just in a researching mood now, i have no problems with my Mobil 1 5w30 , just researching lol

I'm not using it in my Hyundai but I did use it in my V6 Pontiac G8.

When they tore the motor down to do some repairs at 30K, the motor looked perfect. GM actually told my service writer that the Royal Purple was better than anything they put in the motor and for him to replace it rather than using some other oil.

I have used it from my first oil change moving forward.
I also use it on my modified Sky.
I would read analysis reports before believing that it is just purple dye.

It is a good quality synthetic oil with dye. That's it. Same as other high quality synthetics from Mobil 1, Pennzoil, Castrol, etc.

An oil analysis report only shows when the oil needs to be replaced, not how good it is. Blackstone does not want to admit this, because they do a big business with the cult members on Bob is the Oil Guy forum.

I researched for close to a year about different synthetics, and a few dino's thrown in for good measure.

I found that the Royal Purple was the oil for me. They have at least 2 grades and I believe 3 grades of Royal Purple synthetic. I'll continue to use Royal Purple synthetic unless I find scientific evidence that I should change. And some silly little test that shows weights put on an arm with a bearing and cup attached to show wear or lack of wear is NOT going to sway me either way.

Last time I bought Royal Purple was from Amazon. Their prices will vary frequently, so, if you see a price on day that appears too high, check back later to see if the price went down. Best of luck.

I don't suggest using Royal Purple in turbocharged cars. In engines that run hotter the stuff is known to shear down. If it gets too thin, you could end up with bearing damage.

It is? Do you have a link or any evidence to say that Royal Purple will "shear" down??

I used to run RP in my Z06, one I tracked pretty heavily. Never had a single issue with it. Also ran the RP in the trans and rear diff. It's good stuff. I don't think even how I drive my R-Spec (see earlier comment about being a track rat) that I run it hard enough to need it over Mobil-1 from Costco on sale, so I just use that. I'd happily go back to RP, though.

Makes sense. I may also switch over to Mobil-1 EP just to save money. My Genny is a DD and will never ever put it on a track. Rarely do I do any "spirited" driving, and on the rare occasion that I do, it's for very short bursts. But, I do like my RP. :)

Thanks for the clarification.

You can buy Mobil 1 EP and put some purple dye in it, and you will have a superior and less expensive product than RP.
