  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do I really have to keep putting premium gas in my 2009 genesis sedan? I got mad when my regular gas station went from 20 cents more than regular to 28 cents. I checked a new station today and the difference was 32 cents more! I feel it is a ripoff to support lower prices for regular gas. But, I digress, do I HAVE to put premium in my genesis, never had anything else but since I bought it!
Thank you,

Short answer: no
Longer answer: the extra $15 a month is not something I personally would worry about while driving a $40K car. Premium is suggested and I figure Hyundai knows best... It's not like they're saying "we suggest BP for best performance" so I trust that there's no hidden agenda.

Math used: 12,000/MPY, 1000/MPM, 20MPG = 50 GPM X $.30Gallon (difference over regular).

One more thing: guys at the local watering hole were bitching about the price of gas. I pointed out that at $3.25 for a 12oz beer they were paying $35 per gallon. They changed the subject.
;)

If you read the Hyundai ownership manual, it says regular unleaded is recommended for V6 and premium unleaded is recommended for V8. However, regular unleaded is perfectly fine for V8 and does not damage your engine whatsoever. You just get more power and MPG from premium with V8.

Yes, it is an expensive car and I would like to keep it. With income cut in half now will probably have to sell it. Nothing wrong with trying to cut expenses here and there, not like the "guys" ( I am not a guy) who drink beer!!!!!!
Not very helpful......

Thanks for the point to the discussion. I tried to search for such discussion but this site is hard to navigate and I got tired of looking for the keyword premium gas. I had hoped to get some intelligent answers instead of sarcasm like I did from one member. Never owned a hyundai until this one, traded in my Range Rover for it which I miss now due to feeling safer on the interstates!

Sorry if you read it as sarcasm, sorry about your reduced income too. The economy sucks for too many.

One bright side! I'm pretty sure the Gen gets better MPG than the Range Rover!
