  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is starter solenoid going south on G70?

I have a 2019 G70 3.3T RWD. This model has been recalled for a fix of a possible faulty starter solenoid. I'm presently awaiting an appointment to get the fix...and to be sure that they have the replacement part in stock. Nonetheless, I'd like to know (aside from the car self-igniting,) what would be the signs that the car's solenoid is becoming faulty. Thanks.

Apart from the car catching fire or the battery running down with no other reason, would just be weak or no starter engagement. Please be aware that the recall will not be replacing or inspecting the solenoid. It just adds a relay that keeps anything from happening while your are not starting the car. Unless you drive through more than an inch of water, your odds of having this problem should be really low.

Well, I can say that I'm pretty sure that I never drove the car though any level of water other than just a wet ground. BTW, I am noticing that when starting the car, stepping on the brake and pressing the start button, nothing happens. It seems that the brake peddle doesn't depress. But, trying again, peddle depresses and car starts??? Any idea what's up?

That's common if the car sits for too long (a few days to a week?). Apparently, AFAIK, the brake booster vacuum bleeds down, so you've lost your power brakes until the engine starts again. This causes a very hard pedal feel and the pedal doesn't move far enough for the car to realize that your foot is on the brake. If you press harder with your foot, it should start.
Mine does this regularly, now that I've been driving our EV most of the time.
If this happens even when the car hasn't sat for a while, you may want to talk to the dealer because the booster check valve may be leaky.

Hey Husky, that was a great informative reply. Thanks. Of course I was concerned about the solenoid issue, but you've put my mind to rest. However, when I do get the recall appointment, I will ask service to check the booster (even though I'm out of warranty.) BTW, I also have a EV6 GTL, and love it. And, like you, I do drive it whenever I'm going local...which is most of the time.

Glad it was helpful. I had the same question about the brakes and read that explanation from someone else on this forum.
Let us know how your recall repair goes, and if they say anything about the booster. I've got an appointment on Oct 2 for both the solenoid recall and the turbo oil line recall. 🤞🤞

Will do. The oil leak recall has already been done. Had valet service and car was ready the next day. Problem is that on the work invoice it was noted that the solenoid had to be ordered. However, although the solenoids came in to the dealership, they never notified me. I had to finally call them to see if the part was now available. Still awaiting for someone to get back to me to make that appointment.

It's too bad that the dealers continue to disappoint. I suppose they're no worse than others, like my doctor's office who would never think to call you to let you know your test results. Nobody follows through anymore, it's up to the customer to make all the calls, and wade through the phone menus. Rant over. "Get off my lawn!" 😂

So true.

Finally got a valet appointment for 9/3. Will let you know how it goes.

if the solenoid is going bad the car might have trouble starting sometimes you hear a click and nothing happens and you might get some errors on the dash like a check engine light or something

Christopher :)

Dealership screwed up. Valet service will now be on 9/24

Just had the solenoid recall done. As far as I can tell, nothing of interest was found. Car was picked up around 8am and brought back around 1:30pm, 30 miles round trip.

They don't look at the starter or solenoid at all. I've posted the instructions for the recall in anther thread. They just add the high power relay to fuse box under the hood. That disconnects power to the starter except when it is actually starting the engine. This prevents a corroded solenoid from starting a fire. It does not prevent a corroded solenoid from failing.

The easy, but not correct, way out...eh? Obviously, Genesis should be taking a look at the solenoid's condition, rather than just placing a bandage on the problem.
