  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there any way to completely disable traction/stability control?

Recently bought a RWD 5.0L Ultimate and absolutely love the car, but it's a little hard to have too much fun since you don't seem to be able to totally disable the traction control.

Modes I'm aware of:

1. Normal mode - all traction-related driver aides are turned on by default.

2. Press the traction control button once. Traction control "disabled".

3. Hold the traction control button down for a few seconds. Both traction and control and stability control are disabled.

My questions are:

1. What is the difference between those three modes? What can the car do in #3 that it can't do in #2 and what can the car do in #2 that it can't do in #1?

2. In mode #3, you still can't do anything too crazy that will break the tires loose for more than a brief chirp. The brakes kick in and reign you back in, cowboy!

Sometimes I like to have a little fun and burn some rubber, but that doesn't seem possible in this car. Don't get me wrong - I didn't buy this car to do donuts in the parking lot, but for some reason I feel like I need to at least have the option of doing that, should I so choose.

Has nobody replied to this? Do we have to pull a fuse or something to fully enjoy doing burnouts and donuts?

To my knowledge it's always on to some degree... But I've seen a video of a 5.0 Eqqus doing a massive burnout, so maybe it's possible.

I guess maybe I am getting old, but I cringe when I think about 4600 Lb Genny doing donuts! It just seems like the car is too heavy. Like it would hurt something?

Well, what about fishtailing around corners? I’d like to be able to do that at least. I could do some wicked fishtails in my crown vic.

Sure sounds like fun! Like I said it's just me getting old!
Sure sounds like me being paranoid about grenading a diff - sounds like they may be a weak point.

I also respect my vehicles in ways others dont . Some people think I lost my marbles the way I take care of my vehicles. I would agree with carguy75 . The differental is the week link .

The brakes aren’t kicking in, the transmission is kicking up a gear. If you put in Sport Manual Mode, you can hold it until around 5500 where abuse mode forces the trans up a gear.

I don't necessarily like to do burnouts. I just like to go sideways sometimes and the Gennie is plenty capable.

I absolutely agree with you markymark, I have broken too much stuff when I was younger by driving like a bat out of hell. I suppose I just lost my desire to RIP it up.

There is a gentleman on YouTube who posts video's on his 5.0R spec - unless it's a 4.6 model? Anyways I believe he ran a switch to something under the hood that he has to flip to fully disable?

I think it was me, when I had my '13 rspec, lol

Nanny system can't be completely turned off from the cabin. Now, you could pull a few choice fuses to de-activate it...but then the dashboard will light up like a Christmas Tree.

But considering the season....

Not sure how Hoovie managed it - but here's his burnout with a 5.0 Equus for your viewing pleasure. Good one @ 5:00 in. Looks like it's got an open diff though - I only saw one patch of rubber.

I used to occasionally do 'em with my G35s Sedan.... But that car didn't cost me as much.

Whilst on the way to have new tires put on I decided to try a burnout with the old tires. Held the traction control button for a few seconds and all the "nannies" were off. Worked great. However, if you let the rpm get too high it will shift into second gear and this motor (5.0) can't keep the tires spinning in second gear. No way I'm doing that with the new tires. :)

Yeah, I know it will let you do burnouts, but even with traction control turned off, as soon as you start to fishtail the nanny will cut right back in.

Did you turn off stability control also?
