  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there anyway to remove the Governor?

I want to see what this car truly maxes out at, it feels like my 5.0 could make it past 145 so easily and smoothly.

It is computer limited through the software for the engine. It can be done though the software if you can find a source that can do it.

Probably be costly to replace the software that controls the engine. Besides, why not try and make it up to age 17?

BTR can probably do it.

I wasn't aware of any speed restrictions on the 5.0 - it's supposed to be good out to maybe 173 mph.

When Hyundai put sub-standard replacement tires on the V6's, my understanding is that they "reprogrammed the computer" to accommodate the lower speed ratings of those tires.

I believe the Conti's installed as replacements on the V8 are good to the max. speed of 173 (or thereabouts). The car will easily do 0-60 mph in the alloted 5 seconds though, and it only just purrs while it's doing it.

I believe that there was a governor on the 1G V8, so probably on the 2G also. But the max speed was pretty high.

Please don't.

My 15 5.0 did an indicated 153mph on closed course. That was shown on my HUD. Not really designed for it though. The front end gets light and the hood vibrates a lot. It was only after 140 that things got interesting. I don't plan on doing it again. It pulled smoothly past 130, then slowed but kept climbing. Not worth the risk really.

I've maxed out my car and felt very comfortable, would like to go a little bit further is there anything wrong with that? I've done it in very safe conditions, and yes I know how dangerous it is to go the fast and how much can go wrong but I'm very careful about it.

You're 16, what "very safe conditions" was this in? Closed course with safety crew? No... admit it was a public street. You have some growing up to do, yet, and maybe you should start that growing up by not trying to kill yourself in a car your parents most likely paid for...

Have to agree. At your age you have no idea what constitutes safe conditions - or what a car crossing the edge at that speed will feel like - nor how to recover from (or even prevent) it.

Give your dad his key fob back... this is not the car for you. Tell him to get you a base model Civic.

I'm reluctantly going to close this discussion because I know it's the right thing to do. And I don't like closing threads... You know how much can go wrong, I know, but the problem is - is that when it happens - it's too late. Going max speed anywhere is taking a risk every time you do it. It sounds silly, I know. But it's a gamble and life is too important...
