  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there really a difference?

Currently we own a 2016 Genesis 3.8 AWD with 18,000 miles. Great auto and I love ...actually every thing about it I like😁
Question I have is that I just got done test driving a 2018 G80 5.0 AWD with about 3,800 miles and quite honestly I must say it was a different car. It road quieter, seemed more refined or balanced better over dips and bumps...just really smooth? Really though the V8 was really fast ...for me. I’d get a ticket for sure in that auto if I purchase it. Ahaa
Has anyone noticed the difference or is it just that I was in a newer car?
Thanks all

There are a number of creature comfort improvements between 16 and 18, but it's not really an apples to apples comparison because the 5.0 is heavier than the 3.8, which leads to it eating smaller bumps more easily.

Weight has nothing to do with ride quality.
V8s have active suspension which I think rides & handles a little better than the 3.8 V6.
I am very happy after 1 year with my 2016 3.8 AWD Luxury (Currently @ 25000 kilometers). About a month ago I drove a demonstrator 2018 3.3 Turbo AWD Sport (with 17000 Kilometers) & a used 2016 5.0 AWD Ultimate (with 24000 Kilometers). I just couldn't justify the extra dough. My car is quick enough for me. I also don't like the 19" non rotational staggered wheels & the tire issues that come with the really low profile Continental tires. 3.8 gets better fuel economy than the 3.3 Turbo or 5.0 liter V8 too.
I will hang on to my car for a while & might look @ a used G90 down the road if I ever find a low mileage used one for a good deal. Now there is really a great riding Genny even with the 19" wheels!

There really is an ass for every seat ;)!

Suburbazine- Don't want to get into a bun fight but longer wheelbase will make a difference to the ride but 2-300 # more weight over the front wheels (V6 to V8) will not. It's the active suspension that makes the V8 absorb bumps better than a V6.

rroyce46...

Active suspension helps but it can't bend laws of physics. You've left out Mass. The more there is, the harder it is to move it.

To put in perspective... if your Genesis weighed 100 lbs (with a properly tuned suspension) and you ran over a 4x4 piece of lumber at speed, it would be a pretty harsh hit. Now add 100,000 lbs. You'd be up and over it with both axles and never even notice it.

Off road Trophy Trucks have amazing (not active) suspensions. But they'd never ride bumps like this if they weighed 2,500 lbs. These trucks weigh anywhere from 5,500 to 7,000 lbs. Mass matters.

arcman- I see your point comparing a 2500 # vehicle to a 5500# purpose built off roader.
But we are talking the difference 2-300#s would make to ride comfort over normal bumps not a 4X4 piece of lumber which would damage either a V6 or V8. Active ride does make for a better controlled ride over bumps & less body roll while cornering.
Which Genny do you have a V6 or V8 ?
Have you driven both?
I found the V8 felt nose heavy compared to the V6 . JMHO :drive:
