  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The show car is coming to Canada. Late summer ! When it arrives in bulk, much later, it's going to retail for +$70,000. Good luck to Hyundai selling anything for those numbers.

How much do comparable luxury cars go for in Canada?

BMW 7 series starts at $105,000.00
Benz S class starts about $110,000.00
Audi A8 Starts about $95,000.00 (Dealer prep +$2,500.00!)

With a few desirable options (almost mandatory for those cars), add about $15,000.00

The Equus is not a typical Hyundai.
It is comparable vehicle with BMW 7, MB S-class, Audi A8.
The Equus is official vehicle of 2010 G-20 Leader summit.
It is a 'president' vehicle.:)

The typical Hyundai image "value", that is not a good for Equus.
Hyundai should create new lux brand.

You miss the point. It's a Hyundai ! That limits it's value. Hey, I own a Genesis & it's NOT the 8th wonder of the world !

I don't think I'm missing the point. It would be a $25,000-50,000 CAD discount over competitors. Even if you're right about "it's a Hyundai," that's pretty big premium for the nameplate.

I've sat in a Equus and it's a much more substantial and higher-quality car than the Genesis. I wouldn't say it's equal or better than its peers, but it's also going to be priced lower than they are.

Lets be realistic...
ALL the Ford products offer a MUCH better Voice Control system. And some, WEB connectivity!
Very few new expensive automobiles have as poor a ride quality with
NO response/help from the manufacturer.
The 'follow up' by Hyundai has been generally poor.
The 'long term' reliability is unknown
The 'long term' value is unknown & suspect ( look at residuals.. leasing )
Several manufactures offer better fuel economy.
ALL upscale manufacturers offer MORE options..
A couple of chair tables do NOT value make !
So, someone..help me, how do you get to an acceptable $70,000 HYUNDAI

Let's see:

Re: Ford's products. The success of that is the partnership with Microsoft. Hyundai and Kia have also inked similar development deals with Microsoft to develop their own versions of Sync. Ford just started first. Kia's system is coming out this spring and Hyundai's not much behind that. Relative to functionality and web access, long term, building OEM telematics is not where things are going to go. For liability, cost, and technological obsolescence reasons, manufacturers will integrate smartphone interfaces in their cars.

Nearly all aftermarket GPS nav systems are better than any OEM system, regardless of the manufacturer--at a fraction of the cost. I'm disappointed that they'll probably launch the Equus with the Lexicon system, not because it's not a good sound system, but the GPS package that Harman Becker put together is pretty much obsolete already. But it filled a time-to-market gap between technological generations.

Re: Ride quality. It's more of a preference or religious debate there. One could argue that they did listen to consumers based on the changes to the 2010 model and the talk about tweaking the Equus. Maybe that's not what you consider the right way to handle it, but manufacturers aren't known for falling on their sword unless they're getting lots of bad press or getting sued. And there's not a hell of a lot of bad press; the ride quality is mentioned in passing--if at all.

Re: Follow-up. Depends on what you mean. Clearly, the service experience can be sketchy and calling the Tech Line may not yield the results that you'd like to see. But we're seeing changes that seem to be driven by owner feedback and warranty repairs. And they do seem to be sending out a lot of detailed technical surveys.

Long term values are always hard to determine with a new brand and vehicle. I'm pretty sure you'd have the same discussion about Buick or Pontiac (RIP)--clearly the cars are better, but GM doesn't exactly have a great track record. The only way this will become clearer is with time. And as far as luxury vehicles go, I really don't think that resale value factors that highly with someone who can afford nearly six figures for a car.

Re: better fuel economy--what specifically are you comparing that to? The V8 gets really good mileage for a V8 and doesn't require premium fuel. It's going to be some variant of the Tau that gets put in the Equus.

A la carte pricing on options can get very, very expensive. As JOWest mentions, that pushes all competitors over $100K.

The Equus is more than a table and some additional vanity mirrors. It's a significantly larger car than the Genesis, has higher quality materials, and more amenities. I'd suggest that you see it in person before judging whether it is worth the 30% discount over a luxe make.

Simple.....Time...and most importantly.....it doesn't say FORD:D Let's not even bother with pricing until the Equus actually is for sale.

After swearing that I'd never buy another Ford as long as I lived, Hyundai has managed to exceed in every way shape and form any incompetence that Ford has ever dreamed of. Given a choice of buying a Ford over a Hyundai I would now take a Ford every time.

My wife is looking for a new car right now and we recently took a Honda Fit for a test drive. Guess what? The silly little econo-box rides better than my damn Genesis.

I don't even want to go into the absolutely ridiculous and painful experiences I've put up with anytime I take the car in for service. The last time in it smelled as if they spilled a bottle of paint thinner in my car, it took about a week for the smell to dissipate.

Anyone who is looking at the level of car represented by what the Equus is pretending to be, should run as fast and as far as they can from anything that has anything to do with the Hyundai nameplate.

Based on my experriences with Hyundai this company should slither back to selling econo cars to people who's only concern is price and leave the selling of quality products to company's that have a concept of customer service.

Just one totally dissatisfied Genesis owner's opinion.

Satisfied or not, at least your Genesis isn't going to explode in 5 years like certain other vehicles.......:) Although I respect your opinion.

Did you drove Lexus GS, BMW 5, Mercedes E-class?
And, small and lightweight car is a generally nimble rides.
