  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There are a few options if you want to jack up the car and not damage the pinch welds. You can use the supplied jack, buy a hydraulic jack designed for pinch welds or cut slots in a hockey puck or block of wood.

This is what I need. My pinch welds are little bent from jacking up the car with just a floor jack with no pinch weld adapter. How hard is it to make an adapter with the hockey puck?

Just take a hack saw and cut a slot across the center wide enough to clear the pinch welds. The cut should be deep enough so that the top of the puck contacts the floor of the car body but not enough that the pinch weld rests on the hockey puck. And obviously you want the puck to remain attached so don't cut all the way through.

I just bought some hockey pucks to do this. Thanks for your the detailed info. Now I don't have to worry out bending the pinch welds. Mine is already bent a little bit. Should I use a hammer to straighten it out?

The puck will not be thick enough and the pinch weld has the required strength NOT the rocker "flat". Make sure to leave at least 1/3 of the thickness so it wont split or touch the jack "cup" . Be sure to rotate the cup so the "turrets" will not hit the pinch weld.

So are you saying that since the rocker "flat" does not have the strength, you should modify a puck so that it lifts up the pinch welds and not the under body?
I'm confused now.

If you try to lift with the rocker you could easily dent it. Use the pinch welds like the factory meant one to use and the dealer uses. The puck will distribute the load and keep one from damaging the paint.

Thank you for the comment. I just got my pucks in few days ago. Now I gotta start cutting some rubber :D
