  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all. After reading posts on here for months and posting some of my own, and patiently waiting for my car lease to end, I finally pulled the trigger on a used Hyundai Genesis. It's a 2009 4.6 with the tech package. 28,000 miles and in almost brand new condition. Bought it from Glenbrook Hyundai in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I got it for $23,500 - a little high for an '09, but the mileage was so low that I was willing to pay more than I had expected considering I assumed I'd end up buying an '09 with 50,0000 or 60,000 miles. I also got the "Platinum" 100,000 mile bumper to bumper "wrap" warranty in addition to the already-included Hyundai certified pre-owned warranty. Since this Genesis is over three years old, the bumper to bumper warranty expired. With all the gripes I've read about the navigation system and how it costs over $4,000 for a new head unit, I figured I'd better get an extended warranty.

I absolutely, totally freaking LOVE this car. I love the looks, the Lexicon stereo, the comfortable seats, and the abundance of power. It picks up speed so effortlessly. I also love that the dealership tinted the windows before I bought it. Anyway, I'm glad to be a proud "new/used" Hyundai Genesis owner!! (P.S. I've tried four times now to attach some pictures, but they won't attach. It keeps saying something about a "token"....)

Welcome to the club. FYI you still have the 5 year 60k mile original warranty on the major components and drive train in addition to your extended warranty. 28k miles on an 09, wow what a great find.

As a side note, I wanted to mention that AFTER I bought the car and drove it off the lot, I noticed two things that sort of pissed me off: neither of the fog lamps worked (they were burned out; I could tell by seeing that the filaments were broken/burnt) and the car was 800 miles overdue for an oil change according to the oil change sticker on the windshield.

I promptly called the dealership and told them, all the while feeling like an idiot for not checking both of those matters before I left the dealership. Oops. Anyway, they are replacing the fog lamps for free and doing a complimentary oil change this Thursday.

In an e-mail I sent to my salesman today, I "kindly requested" that they also update the navigation system to Version 5 as it currently has only Version 3. Surprise surprise, the salesman told me that they could not update the navigation for free and that it would cost $399! That's even more than I've seen other guys on this website quote from their local Hyundai dealership.

My understanding is the version doesn't tell you what update you have, it's the year date in the middle of the second line. I just had my update last month and thought the same but was educated by others. I still read version 3 but the year is 2012 now. What does your year read?

Hi JDA,

You are in the same situation I was in about 6 weeks ago :)

I love my 4.6. bit thirsty, but it's worth it. Mine is black on black with dark tint as well.

Curiously enough, my fog lights were burnt out as well. Dealer changed them for me as well. I picked my car up in the middle of the day and it never occurred to me to check the fog lights.

The door handle keyless entry also wasn't working but that was covered under the 5yr/60k.

Good call on the warranty. I have to contact Jim Ellis as per another member's advice and inquire about that warranty.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy driving mine.

Raynman10: Thanks for the tip. I just checked, and the nav screen reads as follows next to "Version": 03.00.00 2012.04.14.01

I assume that means I have an update that was released on April 14, 2012? If so, is that the most recent update?

Drewbie: I'm taking the car in this Thursday for a free fog lamp replacement and free oil change. Evidently it's common for fog lamps to not be checked during Hyundai's well advertised 150 point CPO inspection.....

Guys,

So I have read that there are several TSBs regarding different items on our Genesis. Are these TSBs something that can be addressed by the dealer for free or are they simply maintenance notifications that if the owner chooses to do would be applied and charged for them...

Yes to both questions. There is some talk about an upcoming map release in August but two dealers I have contacted here in Phoenix haven't had any word yet.

P.S. Be careful when considering map updates as some apply only to the touch screen system and others to the DIS (joystick) system. If you have the Tech package you have the DIS system.
