  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been lax with body maintenance for the past couple of years and decided to spring for the Full Monty to get rid of paint swirls, etc: Hand detail, nano polish, hand wax, fix chips, interior, leather treatment, engine bay, trunk - the whole works. I've seen this detailer's work and the car will look like new when he's finished. Since I've decided to keep the 2010 for the foreseeable future I decided to get it spruced up and keep it that way. This job will take 2 days - I'm anxious to see how it turns out.

I could post some pics, but we all know what a 2010 Genesis looks like, right? :D

Pics or never happened.
Plain and simple.

What is this service going to Cost?

Not sure what a Genesis looks like after a 2 day detail...

Probably like it did in 2010. :)

300 bucks. For the amount of work to be done, and products and equipment used, it doesn't sound unreasonable to me. If somebody offered me 300 to do it myself I wouldn't, which I guess is the point of hiring it done. I don't paint rooms, clean gutters, or wash windows either.

Yup, seems well worth it. They also have the tools and know how, which will make it easier for them and a better job as well!

What is the name of the company doing it? Also, Post your report of how they did when you get it back.

The company is The Car Guys in Millersville, MD. They have a very impressive facility - clean, modern, well equipped, with 5 big bays and about 6 employees. They've been at this for a long time (15 years) and know their business. Very pleasant to deal with as well.

OK - picked up the car today. It looks as good as, or maybe better than, new. The paint was in good condition (but swirly from car washes), and the interior was clean, when I took it in. The results are outstanding. I'm not posting pictures because I took some and they don't show anything special - there are plenty of pictures of clean, shiny black Genesis's (Genesi?) on the forum already and additional ones won't add any value. Suffice it to say I'm very happy with the results and am glad I did it. I asked them about maintenance and was advised to avoid car washes, to wax it using Carnauba based products, and to avoid any kind of cleaner waxes. They said I might want to get a nano polish once or twice a year to keep up with any paint swirls (did I mention that they did a superb job of getting rid of swirls, including on my VentureShield film?)

Oh, and as to the claim that if there are no pics, it didn't happen: It did happen - would I lie to you??

That's not a very good plan in the winter.
I think they mean avoid automatic car washes with brushes that contact the painted surfaces, which can make small scratches on a black car. Custom car washes (or detailing) are encouraged.

Well may be it did happen and no one said you'd lied either.:)
No offense but this thread is worthless w/o any pic, IMO.
I actually was hoping for a 'before' and 'after' pics to see how good the shop you went to was as I do most of the detailing work myself on my own rides by comparison.
When I took delivery of my Genesis I basically told the dealer not to touch the car because I do not trust their detailer either.

Look ... Elvis!

Sorry, guys. The only "before" pics I have included no paint close-ups, and the "after" pics I took didn't look any different from the "before" pics from a distance. So the thread would also be worthless *with* pics. Oh, the shame! :o

Well, even without pics, congrats on the detailing. Closest I've ever come to doing that was a couple of years ago when my car developed a bunch of rain spots that wouldn't come out. It looked great for a week or two. :)

Yep, it's amazing how much junk can accumulate on the paint when you're not looking. Rain spots, insect juice, bird droppings - they all etch into the paint and become virtually permanent. A good detailer can get rid of most of them, but you really have to keep the car waxed. I offered to have my wife's car (a silver Infiniti) detailed but she looked at me as if I'd lost my mind - "Why on earth would you pay good money to have that done?" She obviously doesn't get it.

Silver hides the subtle paint issues better. Less need for frequent wax and detailing. She gets it just fine :)

Also silver goes faster. :D

Couldn't prove that by me. My wife is the well known little old lady who drives mostly to the grocery store and to visit the grandchildren a few miles away. She is so slow and cautious she drives me nuts. I can't stand to ride in her car (it's a G35 coupe - extremely rough and noisy, and very hard for me to get out of) and I've never driven it once in the 8 years she's owned it.
