If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just wanted to thank everyone for all the great information on 2012s (ok, ok and maybe just brag a little too - LOL). I traded my 2009 3.8 Tech for the new 2012. Other than the obvious body styles changes, which I think are subtle but nice especially at night, the biggest noticable difference so far is in the ride quality. The '12 is definately smoother with less road noise then the '09. I attributed this mostly to the fine tuning of the suspension and the improved Michelin tires over the Dunlops, or as many have noted here Dunflops tires. The 8 speed transmission seem to also aid the overall smoother feel while driving.

I live in Northern Virginia (Washington, DC) and my dealer had at least 10 2012s on the lot. He didn't have the Black on Black, but was able to find one pretty easily at a dealer nearby. I'll update everyone later about my impressions after I had a chance to drive the car a little more. Oh and believe it or not, my '09 held its value so good that I actually ended up pay less for my 2012 then my 2009 - now that was really icing on the cake - smile.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
StylesDC,
Did your dealer have any 4.6 on the lot? In CT none of the dealers have received either 3.8 or 4.6s. I am interested in a Titanium 4.6 with Saddle interior.

Thanks.
Larry

Congrats....

Show pics when you get the time.

How's the power compared to the old 3.8 and 4.6?
congratulations.

care to shre you purchase price? very curious to see what they got you for.

Congrats, you already know how great these cars are so what more can "we" say?? lol you know more about them than most of us!

Seatle Genesis I've read enough of your posts to know that you hate the ride of your Genesis as much as I hate mine. Does the report of the OP make you more or less inclined to stick with the Hyundai brand? If you stay with Hyundai will you attempt to retrofit your pesent car or buy the 2012? Just curious. Do you feel as I do that Hyundai should be more out front with this ride issue? Those of us who made this new car succesful shouldn't be given the cold shoulder by the company. I've been researching the M Benz e350 ('07-09) and it appears at first glance that our cars are every bit as nice excepting the ride. Eventually this present Genesis ride is going to be a deal breaker.

Hey Vince,
Yea Im disappointed in HMA's approach, but whatcha gonna do. Other than the ride of the 09's Im very happy with the car. Im planning on upgrading to the 2012 v8 4.6 or the R-spec. Im hoping the ride has improved over the years. I still love this car. Im sure you can find a better car with more options, but youre gonna pay for it. Alot more.

Yes all correct SG...the Genesis with a good suspension would be a great car. I haven't seen any 2012s on the lots in my town. I'm waiting for some of the frequent critics of the suspension on this forum (including you) to test drive the car and give us their impression. As soon as they arrive in my town I'll do the same. "Re-tuned the suspension"...I can't wait to find out the changes and see if an upgrade is doable.

Hi Larry I think all they had were 3.8s, didn't see any 4.6s. Sorry, I didn't think to ask when they thought they might have some.

Thanks for the well wishes on the new car. Well since I've had a chance to drive the car a few hours today, let me see if I can answer a few of the questions:

1. I really haven't notice a significant power difference, but everything seems to be just a little smoother (ride, acceleration, gear shifting etc).

2. The purchase price was about $40,500.00, but that was after a $1,500 VIP rebate. I think I might have made a slightly better deal, but my trade on my '09 was so good that my net purchase price was around $34,000.00.

3. Seattle Genesis - I really think HMA has made large strives in addressing the over all quality of the ride and you might be surprised. That said, things like ride quality or sometimes subjective. Some folks think that MB ride is too soft, while other might describe the BMWs as too harsh. All I can say is '12 definitely seems to be much improved. You probably should try to keep an open mind and test drive the 2012s.

Thanks Styledc.....

Im waiting for the V8's or the R-Spec to come around. Most likely will get a V8 since Im thinking it will be the smoothest of all. R-spec might be tuned a bit racey and sporty. I still plan to test drive both a lot... I mean at least 30 minutes over some of South Seattle streets which are not kept up. Im pretty sure its WA State's idea to keep the traffic from getting to fast around here.... hahaha.

Also post some pics if you can.

I found a 2012 3.8 with no options for $30,700 dollars plus ttl. Is this a good deal or do you guys think I can find a better deal? This price includes freight and the loyalty rebate.

With all the complaining you have done about the suspension on your current Genesis (probably for good reason) you would be very foolish to even consider the R-Spec.

Aside from the bigger V-8, the R-Spec differentiates itself from lesser Genesis models with various suspension and brake tweaks. A further 1-mm bump in rear-anti-roll-bar diameter supposedly cinches it down a bit more, but we didn’t get a chance to toss the car into any aggressive hairpins to verify this. What we were able to find is that the moderately higher spring rates somewhat negate the other 2012 Genesis’s breakthroughs in the ride-and-handling arena, rediscovering some of the flintiness that other models thankfully left behind. Larger wheels—19 inches on the R-Spec—might also be partly to blame.

Probably due to a combination of the stiffer suspension setting, larger wheels and diff. rubber.

Definitely test drive the 5.0 thoroughly to see if the extra sportiness is worth a little rougher ride; otherwise, the 3.8 and 4.6 seem like the better bet.

I just test drove the new 2012 3.8. I loved it. LOVED IT! Hyundai is listening. The ride while still pleasantly firm has manners! That harsh ride over manhole covers, bumps, expansion joints and just about anything else is absent. Mercifully they have developed a better seat! The steering has been lightened a tad. It's just a better car to drive. If much like myself you have loathed the suspension do yourself a favor and test drive the new car...it's what it should have been all along.

Good to hear Vince.... I too just came from the dealer where I saw, but didnt drive the 2012 3.8 Genesis. Not many changes I could see except the lights and the audible alarm now has music.... but the look and "feel" of the car looks much nicer than the 09's. Im thinking Hyundai may have just hit a home run with this version. Still want the 2012 4.6 to arrive and test drive. Im feeling this will be my dream car. :)

Yeah SG...I've said in many previous posts that a Genesis with a good suspension is my perfect car. I was so friggin happy test driving the new car I almost teared up! I kid you not! The "seat of your pants" feel of the car has been improved. Its just not as stiff. For me the previous version was just this side of too firm. I'm a bit peeved too. I don't spend money easily. My last car lasted 10 years afterwhich I bought the Genesis and one year later I'm set to buy again. It's not a decision if I'll by the new version just when. I'm collecting information to make a good deal...any advice?

with all the improvements to the 2012s, the Equus makes less and less sense.
