  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm exited!

Just bought a white 2011 V8 with 38k miles for <$26k. Even with shipping and taxes it's still a very low cost for what I could find in the Boston area.

Must confess I bought it "sight unseen". I did a test ride of a 2012 V6 Premium and loved the car. Suspension much better then advertised and compared to the Lexus ES much more refined (in line but not as great as the Lexus GS and BMW 5 series that I have passenger experience with) But I know I wanted the Adaptive Cruise Control of the Tech/V8 model so when I found this price I couldn't refuse.

So it will be interesting to learn how much worse the 2011 V8 drives in comparison. I just wasn't willing to pay $8k more for a one year newer but V6 model. I figured the brute force of a V8 should make up for the 6 vs 8 speed transmission and on top of that I was a little worried about GDI technology.

I will miss the updated LCD in the speedometer of the 2012 and I will also miss the updated head/tail lights.

Will let you know what I feel once I've driven it but for the price the Genesis is very hard to beat if you are looking for a Highway cruiser.

Oh! And my Genesis comes with the KDM "update" (i.e. Wings instead of H). It does unfortunately come with the winged sticker on the steering wheel. I think that looks cheap and doesn't match the steering wheel color enough. Anyone know a good way of removing it without damaging the Steering Wheel? I do like the replaced trunk badge and the wheel covers. Makes the car hard to guess and it looks more expensive that way

If they put the airbag emblem on correctly, they just used the attached double sided tape and stuck it on, so it might come off OK. I would heat it with a hair dryer and try some dental floss to remove it. Then you might need some GooGone to get rid of sticky tape residue (do not use professional strength GooGone). Then clean the GooGone with some soap and water, and when it dries you probably will needs some vinyl restorer like AmorAll (low gloss version).

Some people tried to pry out the H emblem and ruined it (it is deeply embedded), but if that is the case I guess you can buy a new wing cover for about $25 and put it back on (or a new airbag with KDM wings for several hundred dollars).

Thanks for the suggestion. Hopefully it looks better in real life then on pictures and knowing myself I doubt I will get around to removing it.

The rebadging caused me a lot of angst but in the end I had a choice between two identical car (same price and within 1200 miles on the odometer). One red the other white both with tan interior. Both with clean car faxes and a single owner.

The white had the KDM badges and, I hate to say it, was the deciding factor. In general I think leaving the Hyundai logo on is the smarter choice. I think keeping the Hyundai logo shows more security in ones choice (Look at me I figured out this car ROCKS at this price and I'm not vain enough to need a special badge; I'm happy driving a great car with any badge on it). It also smartly hides the luxury of the car which in many cases might be good.

That said I find the Hyundai logo ugly in general. I especially find it too over-sized on the trunk. The Genesis wings work better at that size in my opinion (even if they are kinda ugly too). For the wheel caps I do think the "H" work and I think having no hood ornament works as well.

So in the end I was vain. I have a car with a badge no one will recognize making that car more exotic and luxurious looking.

Life works in interesting ways. Can't wait to actually drive my new car.

Congratulations-you can buy a winged air bag emblem on E-Bay or Amazon for about 10-12 bucks. Goes right over the "H". Looks pretty decent and although I like the air bag replacement can't justify the $245+ cost for the new air bag.

:welcome: You will really enjoy your new car!

I was faced with the same choice a few months ago - a 2011 V8 white/tan with 21k or a 2012 V6 Tech Grey/Blk with 3k. I opted for the 2012 because I really wanted the "current" body style and the low miles. While mine is plenty fast and the 8spd is super smooth, the V8 does get rolling effortlessly, and with 385hp any gear is the right gear!

Spend lots of time on this site, reading all you can and you'll get the best from your car and have a great resource should you encounter any issues or questions. Enjoy!

Congrats and welcome to the club :welcome:

Thank you all.

I'm exited to get the car. I'm hoping Saturday but it will probably be next week.

Finding the Genesis really allowed me to gain a complete class of car while staying within Budget. I was looking for a loaded used Lexus ES but after test driving it I wasn't that impressed. The similarly priced used Genesis on the other hand rides in the same league as a Lexus GS. Especially for a single driver.

It's simply a much better car (for highway, deprivation chamber commuting) then the ES or Infinity GS.

At that cost it made the decision easy. Sure it has some short comings and short cuts compared to the Lexus GS, Infiniti M, Mercedes E or BMW 5 but it costs like a full class below.

So I didn't test drive the car for that long. It was clear to me that it was the car for me at this point.

Had I had more money I would have gone for the Tesla instead of the Lexus GS but I'm not willing to spend that much on a car. I'm hoping a used Tesla is in my future.

Argh... Delivery is 7-10 days away. Hope it gets here before vacation time! (though I need to drive that XC70 station wagon for vacation anyway).

Welcome and you will love the V8! She does everything effortlessly in everyday driving I doubt you will find the need to exceed 1/4 throttle......but then again it is darn fun to take a empty on ramp at WOT too!

Effortless is what I'm looking for. I'm also hoping that the V8 beeing taxed less will last a longer time (and it also seem to have won a lot of prices). I do tend to drive my cars to the ground. This car needs to make it to 140.000 at least for my math to work out. I'm hoping I can stretch it to 200.000.

This is my main worry about buying a Genesis. I haven't seen a lot of high mileage results and just a few years ago they where not known for their quality (though that have changed).

Car delivered a few minutes ago. Just had time to take it to a run to pick up lunch. It needs some cleaning (inside and outside) and has a little more scuff marks inside then I hoped.

My 10 minute drive impression:

First time driving the V8. Ride feel smoother then the 2012 V6 I test drove. Can't say that I in normal driving notice a difference between 2011/12 suspension. Power is smooOOOOOooOOOOOth and effortless but also deceptive. Not used to V8s. Doesn't rev as fast as V6s (and is so quiet) so initial feel is "slow" (apart from being pushed back in seat) but then you notice all other cars in the rearview mirror...

HD Radio works great. Stereo System just as I expected. For a audioholic like me it works great as it's very revealing and exact. For what I listen to Jazz/Classical/Vocal it will work GREAT. Bass is there but not Bose like (to me a good thing!).

Adaptive Cruise works as great as I hoped. Only tried it on back roads where it regains speed a little slow (i.e at 25 MPH going to 45 it's a little slow). This shouldn't be an issue on freeway. It comes to practically a complete stop by itself (though it will disconnect and roll on idle forward). Seem to work will in medium rain (better then Volvos system that turns off when you engage the vipers).

That's all impressions so far. Looking forward to the ride home tonight!
