  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I will soon be a proud new owner of a 2013 Genesis Sedan 5.0 R-Spec. Upgrading from a 2009 Sonata, so it's going to be a big change for me. I'm very excited, but I have to wait 2 or 3 weeks for delivery. I added 20% tinted windows, paint protection, and undercoating.

I test drove the V6, and was really impressed, but they didn't have an R-Spec for me to test drive. The performance looks incredible, the audio is fantastic, and it's very upscale for me. Can't wait!

Here's to an Early Delivery ;)

Congrats! I recently got a 2012 V6 sedan with prem & tech packages. Drove a bare V6 and a R-Spec sedan - so car that wasn't there was in between. V6 had plenty of oomph & I liked the goodies in the R-spec. The R-spec was outrageous on the highway. The 4 miles I was on the highway there were two state troopers with SCMODS (blues brothers reference) & I don't know how I did not get a speeding ticket.

Enjoy!!!

Congrats!

Just a couple of thoughts. The R-Spec will have a firmer suspension. Suggest you find one to test to be sure you will like that. Also, aftermarket undercoating and paint treatments have their critics. Some say they only benefit the seller. I agree with that viewpoint.

Congrats!! Enjoy it. I tested and bought the 3.8 Premium. I was afraid to test drive the 5.0L because I knew I would talk myself into spending another $8k if I tried it :)

Thanks. I was looking for a car that gave the best of both worlds in terms of luxury and performance. I loved the smooth ride of the V6, and I hope the R-spec's firmer suspension isn't too bumpy. It's got to be better than my 09 Sonata.

Outstanding,. Don't worry about the suspension. It is very acceptable. I don't think it is harsh at all. :)

Uhh, no.

I really hope you like it, but the difference between the 3.8 and the R-Spec was, IMHO, unacceptable.

That's not to imply the R-Spec is bad at all, but it was MUCH stiffer and felt a little out of character for what the car is. I could not justify the added $$$ and reduced gas mileage for a commuter when the loaded 3.8 was 99% of the R-Spec at 85% of the cost. As long as the roads where you live aren't beat to death, I'm sure you will enjoy it. I'm very happy with mine and certainly have no regrets, something I can't say about some cars/trucks I've spent over twice the money on........

I have a 12 v6 with 35% tint and am considering tinting the frt windshield. Have you done that and what do you think if so. Also is your K&N a drop in filter. If so any comments neg or positive.

I would avoid that, it's illegal to tint your front windshield. Police tend to turn a blind eye to side windows in Alberta, but they will nail you for the front window.

on a different note:
The dealer called me and said they have two r-specs in stock now, but they are the platinum and titanium. I ordered black, and I love black, but I am tempted to switch to the titanium.

black looks great but you'll be married to frequent washing and waxing a large car = pass

Even though I purchased Titanium... White would be my first choice.

Sorry if I came off sounding racist... I just believe there is a Grey... er Titanium area ;)

ppp

I have the titanium gray and it's a great compromise between light and dark.

As for the paint protection, ask them what the coating is. I had a prof detailer use Opticoat on the back of my car (xpel is on the entire front clip). Typically the dealer paint protection is not worth the cost. Just my 2cents. Same goes for undercoating. The car is incredibly well protected underneath from rust.

My reference to being fully tinted does not include the windshield, I also would advise against that.

The K&N is a drop in. I've used them in everything from motorcycles to trucks to race cars without issue. I have occasionally seen a few HP where I took the time to dyno, but the biggest positive is only buying a filter for the application one time. P.N. 33-2426 was less than $50.

My personal choice would be the titanium, although in the end I rejected that because I wanted the Cashmere interior. I also wanted some color contrast on the dashboard and the lighter colored "wood" too.

Again, I would recommend road testing an R-Spec to be sure its suspension is what you like, vs the V6 that you know you liked.

Well it's a little late for a test drive, I have the car on order. I think I might have a chance to change the colour however.

I did notice that the two r-specs they have in stock do not have any wood grain at all. Is this typical?

This my first car with a black interior and while it looks nice it shows every bit of grass and dirt. Would have gone with the cashmere interior if I had it to do over again.

I have Titanium and adore the color and dazzling shine. However, I found out the hard way today that its almost impossible for even the pros to match paint for touch ups. The sparkle is so exuberant that it is not readily blendable.

I think I would still get it though since its gorgeous. But unless you know you'll never need touch up paint, I'd caution anyone looking to buy the Titanium. Very tricky to blend.

Fortunately my minor scrape was almost out of the visible area, but still wanted to touch it up.

re: wood trim
Only on cashmere IIRC. Steering wheel no longer has wood in the Rspec, regardless of interior color.

re: black vs. cashmere interior
With two kids and after having three cars with beige colored interiors (2 Accord, 1 Solara), I find having black interior much easier to keep clean.
