  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just purchased a 2012 Genesis 3.8. Beautiful car in great shape and flawless interior. Couple issues. 1. Actuator on passenger front door lock is intermittent; 2. Takes forever to fill up (may have found the solution to the problem on this forum...part arrives Wednesday; and 3. The transmission is shifting erratically at times, but not consistently.

I'm reading that the transmission issue may be as simple as reprogramming or a major as it being replaced. Fortunately, I got a warranty on the vehicle.

Love the car...comfortable, performs amazingly and seems as if its not running sitting at idle. Looking forward your feedback.

Added a couple pics.

Welcome! Moving this to the first generation Genesis Sedan section.

FYI, own 2012 Genesis Sedan and had new transmission put in under warranty at 97,000 miles. My car seemed to do the same as you described when I would drive it. Car now has 156k on it. It has been a good car other than this issue but again was covered under warranty. At some point would like to buy a used G80 but wife’s car on last legs so need to get her something first.

Your car looks like it was well cared for. Great purchase. Be careful on the highway, you can easily be cruising at 90 mph and you don’t even know it the car is that smooth.

Understand. Bought the wife a new car last year.

I've experienced that already. Was on a road trip (about 150 miles) looked down and was approaching 95 mph.

Transmission rough shifting issues are common. Most likely the valve solenoids and will get worse over time. There's a DIY thread somewhere on these forums but search is not helping me today. Basically: 1. Drop pan. 2. Unbolt solenoid assembly & inspect/replace the faulty bits. 3. Replace pan. Trans can stay on the car. Most dealers are fearful/incompetent/unwilling to do basic internal repairs like this and will tell you to replace the entire transmission, which is unnecessary most of the time. Find a good local transmission shop.

Door lock actuators fail uncommonly. Had one fixed in '12 on my '09 under warranty. Normally "a few hundred dollars" at the dealer. Again, a good competent local mechanic can do this on any car for less than the dealer.

Repairing a Genesis sedan at a Hyundai dealer will be German car money (BMW, Mercedes), but typically done with less competence.

Thanks...will look at that option. Gonna have to get the fuel filler system looked at...keeps cutting off at the pump.
