  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

While the key fob is in my pants pocket, when I bend down or cross my legs, sometimes the panic alarm will sound or the trunk will open. Evidently my leg is accidentally pushing the key fob buttons. Is there something that I can do to prevent that from happening such as buying a certain key fob protector? Meanwhile I have pushed that button inside the glove compartment to prevent the trunk from being opened.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or anecdotes if the same has happened to you.

I haven't had that problem, mine is usually where the doors unlock or the alarm goes off. The trunk may have opened once or twice. I had the same problem with a Mercury Marauder and a Lincoln MKS. Even worse because on the MKS the windows and the moon roof opened. I have a suspicious its government radio interference since there are government installations all over, plus the flight paths to Dulles and BWI.

But to get back to your question. What I did was make sure that when I put the FOB into my pocket is that it wouldn't get pinched. Mark_888 is at least half right that bigger pants would help. Stuffed pockets are a no-no with these key fobs.

......another benefit is protecting fob from drop damage
Drop damage? I have washed my keyfob in a washing machine twice (hot water cycle) and it works fine. I am pretty sure I have dropped it at least half a dozen times, without any damage.

I keep mine in my watch pocket in my jeans and shorts with the buttons facing outwards and have had zero issues with this. Try it!

He may be talking about doing cosmetic damage to the key, scratches, dents in the plastic, stuff like that ...

I have a related problem that's even weirder. I hang my fob from my belt, with nothing touching it at all, and on at least 3 occasions my trunk lid has opened on its own while I'm away from the car!!
Anybody else experience this?

in your case take the card key

because there is no button on it so you can wear a tight pants and you cross your legs and you can break them and no trunk or alarm will open

this key you can put it in your wallet

Trunk full of snow

I followed the suggestions to get the silicone jacket for my fob, and it hangs loosely from my belt, but today I went to clean my driveway and found the trunk open and full of snow!

when not driving, mine sits on a shelf near the door, right next to the house keys. At work I'd toss them on my desk.

So basically what you're saying is your junk is opening the trunk:D

Yes! I have a Genesis with electric open/close trunk and the past month my trunk has opened about 10x and my alarm has went off about 5x with my keys not touching anything ever! Someone is doing this thru a hacking device because it’s too many repeat occasions. Woke up several times with my trunk wide open and my sunroof open!

This has happened to me too. I park near my classroom and the custodian or another teacher would ask why my trunk was open. I solved my problem by wearing my fob on my necklace around my neck. I bought a small quick release latch from Lowe's and just snap it to my necklace. No problems for the last two years.

Interesting.

I never had this particular issue, however I do wear loose fitting pants or scrub uniforms so that maybe why. However, I could see how skinny jeans or slim fit pants could cause the key-fob buttons to be pressed by the keys on a key-ring if they are squeezed together in tight fitting pants pockets.
