  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2009 Genesis' Key Fob works sporadically. I have changed the batteries more than once and each time it will work normally for a short period of time and then again become sporadic. This is the case for unlocking the doors remotely as well as starting without inserting the fob. Anyone else expierence same?

No, but one question? Are your windows tinted?

Where is key when its out of car an not in a pocket or purse?

I've had this problem several times in the past and I've found that after pressing and releasing the brake pedal several times (at least 3 seems to be the minimum required) the car will start.

When installing the battery, how firmly do the little contacts seem to grip it? They're not that strong and are easily damaged when installing a battery. Gently bend them so they grip better. And use a regular pencil eraser to clean them where they actually contact the battery - erasers are great at removing oxidization from electrical connections.

I have also had sporadic key fob failure. Seems to work good for awhile after new battery even when old battery is still good. It seems to work better if I remove any keys near the fob but just today the fob just would not work. Luckily the car will still start with the fob inserted in dash. This last time was different since as soon as I got home I tried my second fob and same result. Both acted as if the battery died even when they are showing 3.36v and 3.37v. I'm wondering if it is a sign of someone trying to electronically "hack" the system or if the receiver in the car is having problems. Maybe it is time for another software reload? UPDATE: Just went out to the car (2 hrs after incident) and both fobs work normal....go figure! Sometimes I think my car has a "mind" of its own.

Hacking it.... Could be possible. And more likely in future.

I think I have found the problem.....not 100% sure but so far it is working. I took one of the fobs and added a thin piece of foam to the inside back plastic cover and so far no intermittent problems. Works in the cold or the hot. I even put it in the refrigerator for awhile took it out and it worked perfect, same result for putting it in the heat too. So the other fob that works sporadically got the same foam and now no more problems. It could be that after 5 years the plastic fatigues just enough to not pres the battery down onto all the contacts, especially since the + contact contacts the side and not the top (not a lot of margin for error). Hope this is all it needed!! Nice simple fix!!

Insert where?

Insert where?
In the earlier Genesis sedan models, there is a slot for inserting the key fob (if the key fob battery is dead). The slot is no longer on the newer models, and the manual just says to hold the key fob near the ignition switch if key fob will not work remotely (to start the car).
