key fob low battery...on both?

I purchase Japanese made batteries. Mostly Maxell. But, I've heard grumblings saying Energizer is better:

My second fob is rarely used and it got twice the life of the primary. 10 months versus 20. I had an odd situation about a week ago though, a vouple of weeks after both batteries were replaced.

I got in the car, pushed the "Start" button and it said "fob not in car". Brake pedal did not go down as usual. Since I replaced the battery, I thought it odd. Got the second fob, same message. Oh crap, what now. I held the button in and after about 30 seconds the car started. Never happened again. No idea why it happened the first time.
