  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone bought an aftermarket key fob and did it work?

Thanks for the reply. Did you have to go to a Genesis dealer to get it programmed and how much did it cost you?
Thanks

There are plenty of discussions on here on the process to purchase/reprogram a FOB. Search is your friend.

Are there really that many discussions about the GV60 key fob? Are we assuming the key fob hardware and process is the same across all Genesis models? How many Genesis models are using ccIC hardware for user authentication?

As far as I can tell there is just a single posting about buying a key fob from eBay, paying a locksmith to program it, and then it being inconsistent.

This forum is great and I’m all for people using the search function, but I swear I’ve never been part of an automotive forum where there have been so many thread responses from people who don’t own the model in question or at least have knowledge of the uniqueness of the model.

To be fair, I think there are reasonable errors on both sides. The OP did not in his initial post state that it was for a GV60 so it was fair for forum members to point out the many threads on the topic for Genesis cars; on the other hand, the OP did include in his avatar the fact that he owns a GV60 so as he point out, there have not been many threads that involve his head unit.

Out of curiosity, I just did a search for threads with the word "fob". There were ten pages of hits. So I can see the OP narrowing his search with criteria the results of which would not meet his needs.

Lets give each other the benefit of the doubt and keep being helpful to each other.

I don’t believe anyone, other than the dealer can program the fob, I’m pretty certain that was the finding previously. In any case, I’d be very sceptical about buying a replacement fob from anywhere other than the dealer. It will be exorbitantly expensive but if there’s a problem with anything, it’s theirs, not yours.

Guess I'll have to let the locksmith that did mine know that he can't do it and should stop.
