  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The past couple of weeks, it appeared that the REMOTE entry fob for our 2012 Genny, or the keyless entry system was acting wonky. Would not unlock. Or when I'd unlock it, the mirrors would not open, or the trunk would not open, etc. I also noticed that the garage door opener integrated into the car would not function at times. I thought it might need reprogramming. THen the handheld fobs would not open the garage door. Bad battery perhaps? The Genny was in for service last week and I asked dealer to check the remote entry system. They found nothing amiss.

This past weekend they were still acting wonky. So I checked sunspots, coronal mass ejections, etc. Nothing significant. As I was an electronic warfare tech in the Army, and an Amateur Radio Operator, I figured that left radio interference or lightening...I suspected radio interference from Ft. Huachuca and it was verified yesterday....

This affects about anybody living in or around military bases, installations, etc as well.

"Third stage" door openers operate at 100-400 MHz. 4th stage openers operate limited to the 315 MHz frequency. The 315 MHz frequency range avoids interference from the Land Mobile Radio System (LMRS) used by the U.S. military. LMRS is what is being used here on Ft. Huachuca and other military bases/installations, etc.

Most RKEs operate at a frequency of 315 MHz for North America-made cars and at 433.92 MHz for European, Japanese and Asian cars.

Now that I have been affected by it, I DO remember reading something about the possibility of it years ago from an FCC announcement....oh well. Live and learn. Just be aware of it.

Tech or non-tech, this is very useful stuff.

yea, wonky means it probably isn't your car, fob or opener or battery... LoL It's the GOVERNMENT!:eek:

An ELINT guy? I'm an Army ASA vet.

Thanks for the info. Paris Island is north of me and Fort Stewart is to the south. But I haven't experienced your problems with my car.

Fort Devens trained? I got my 9620 MOS there. Last job was Company Commander of an ELINT crew and 150 German language intercept guys in Berlin. Wall was up then.
